Problem gambling can have a profound impact on an individual's moral framework and core values. As addiction takes hold, it often forces compromises in long-held principles, leading to the rationalization of dishonesty and irresponsibility. This erosion of values can result in significant emotional distress and a loss of self-identity. Recognizing the disconnect between actions and core values is a crucial step in addressing problem gambling. Recovery is a process that requires patience, self-reflection, and often external support. It's possible to realign behaviors with fundamental beliefs and values, restoring one's ethical compass. If you or someone you know is struggling with problem gambling, remember that help is available. Gambling problem? Although the threat of illegal gambling arcades is not new in Florida, contacts to the 888-ADMIT-IT HelpLine from people gambling at illegal establishments rose significantly in the four years since the COVID-19 pandemic, when legal casinos shut down and illegal ones remained open. Regardless of where or how you're gambling, confidential help and hope are available through the 888-ADMIT-IT HelpLine, if it becomes a problem. Recent research reveals a concerning trend: veterans are at a significantly higher risk for problem gambling. With rates at least twice that of the general adult population, military and veterans service providers must be aware of this issue. Problem gambling can be linked to PTSD, difficulties in civilian reintegration, and the search for adrenaline rushes similar to combat experiences. As professionals, let's work together to raise awareness and provide support for our veterans facing this challenge. Gambling problem? Call or text 888-ADMIT-IT. https://lnkd.in/epDpe9wT
