My thoughts on the new Gambling commission survey and reporting today: Please consider this as a hot take and one based on lived experience and initial findings. I haven’t had a chance to form a solid opinion. - As with academia and data, things can often be interpreted several ways. 🤔 - I think the narrative of what would constitute a ‘problem gambler’ remains higher than initially thought previously regarding of findings. (Trust me, I wouldn’t have admitted even if anonymously due to shame and being warped in my own addiction ) The one think I take from it, is the findings that several reported: - Lying to family members 😳 - Reduction in spending on EVERYDAY items (not big ticket items, actual cost of living)💰 🔥 - Feeling isolated 😢 - Suicide Ideology 💔 And I think that’s personally what gets me the most. I ticked all those boxes. That’s why I do what I do alongside Musgrove and Ball. To break down stigmas, to ensure we are preventing gambling harm, to ensure people are not alone in addiction. That we can ensure people are informed. And that we can help those that show courage in admittance. I’m pretty sure everyone is all in agreement with this from all sides. And to those out there that also ticked the box, you are certainly not alone ❤️

Gambling harms are not just financial, they come in many forms. Over the years, I was accused of being a narcissist and I done everything in my power to deny and avoid this label. Working with my therapist, it became obvious that my behaviour had been that of a narcissist. If you look at the definition, a lot of people would fit some aspects. For someone in active addiction and suffering harms, they will fit many more. My actions deserved reactions, but I resented those reactions. I hurt so many around me, yet often expected no reaction. I expected to be able to lose everything and my partners to just deal with it. There was also the "need" to keep everyone away from my true love, which was gambling, and if anyone got close to uncovering the true extent, or told me I must leave it all together, I would react. Often this will lead to controlling behaviour and what is now dealt with under the control and coercion law. On top of this was the economic, emotional and even threat of physical abuse. Acceptance of this allows reflection and the ability to ensure that changes are made to never treat someone that way again. Facing up to it is hard, but that is the only way. The reason for this post is to help others who may be suffering from this behaviour today and questioning why their partner or family member is acting in this way. Could it be due to gambling harms? For those directly affected by their own gambling harms, is this affecting you and your loved ones today? are you acting in this way? Do you want to stop? There is help out there and it is possible to deal with this behaviour. Please ask for help.

You can stop/control this feeling to gamble. Addicts suffer and yield to this urge. Addicts always think gambling — is their only option to become rich — is the fastest way to financial freedom The things addicts fail to see is — the odds are always against punters — bet companies never get to lose(even if You win). I was once an addict, you are not alone. First I learnt discipline — I started fasting 1 day a week — made sure I dressed my bed every morning. The outcome — I was able to build my will muscles — I understood the concept of discipline How I applied it to gambling — I played alternative week — I set an amount to play with — I saw football matches less The outcome — I was able to save more — I was able to think of other ways to earn — I was able to control my urge Try these tips lets see if it works for you. P.S. What tip would you like to add if you have dealt with any addiction? P.S. I Am Jubilee, a gambling addict coach. Follow, connect let us share values.

https://lnkd.in/eh36xcHf Recovery from #gamblingaddiction requires people to rebuild their relationship with money and start living within their means. Repayment plans, debts, money pressures etc need to be addressed and a new plan for how money is accessed has to be in place. It is therefore understandable that many gamblers end up getting a bit stuck in endless ruminations and obsessions about money- something that often draws the mind right back to gambling and keeps them stuck in a mindset where money-related thinking drives the gambler to believe that their problems will end once their financial deficit has been sorted out. Being constantly preoccupied with money-related thoughts also becomes an impediment to living a free and interesting life. My newest blog post covers the following: - How to end the cycle of money-ruminations that are depressing and pointless - A reminder that nobody said gamblers needn't ever own money again- they just need to limit their access to it! - How to take positive and constructive action to sort out financial mess so that you can let go and focus on enriching your life in other areas Hope you enjoy the read!

What is problem gambling? Our friends at National Council on Problem Gambling describe it as gambling behavior that is damaging to a person or their family. This gambling behavior often disrupts daily lives and careers. What are the warning signs? ➡️ Thinking about gambling all the time. ➡️ Feeling the need to bet more money and more often. ➡️ Going back to try to win your money back ("chasing losses"). ➡️ Feeling like you can't control yourself. ➡️ Gambling despite negative consequences. It's important to raise awareness about the issue of problem gambling, as it affects millions of people across the world. According to the National Council on Problem Gambling, around 9 million people in the United States alone suffer from mild or severe gambling-related problems. Unfortunately, identifying these issues can be challenging, and many individuals may be hesitant to come forward and seek help. This is why Problem Gambling Awareness Month (PGAM), observed throughout March, is so important. It provides a platform to educate the public about the signs of problem gambling and encourage those who may be struggling to reach out for support. #gambling #gamblingaddiction

Gambling Harm Awareness Week: what are you really gambling with? This week, Western Australians are being asked to reflect on the true cost of gambling. It’s not just about money—gambling can affect relationships, mental health, and financial security. This is an important week and aligns with the Perth Football League’s commitment to the upcoming Gambling Harm Reduction Project, which is set to roll out in early 2025. Do you or someone you care about show signs of gambling harm? These might include: • Spending more time or money on gambling than you can afford • Arguing with family and friends after gambling • Borrowing money or selling assets to gamble • Increased alcohol consumption around gambling or after a loss If you're unsure, take a 30-second quiz to check if gambling is becoming a problem, take the quiz: https://lnkd.in/g43bEh4M Remember, there’s no shame in getting support. Last year alone, over 3,700 counselling sessions were accessed in WA to help individuals and families affected by gambling-related harm. Free, confidential help is available through Gambling Help WA. You can also call 1800 858 858 for advice. Let’s work together to reduce gambling harm in our communities.
