About us
The Academic Startup Competition is the place to be for Dutch Academic entrepreneurs to compete for a spot in the top 20 of the most promising upcoming science based start-ups in the Netherlands 23/24. By winning the competition you will be provided access to various peer-2-peer discussion groups with investors, experienced founders and experts. You will receive a national stage through media coverage and networking events. Lastly, you will receive the possibility to join us at global networking events such as Hello Tomorrow (Paris) and the USA. So are you an academic spin-off or do you have a strong partnership with any of the Dutch research institutes? Do you have at least two founders and raised initial funding? Do you have a strong technical foundation or are you a social based science disrupting outdated systemic processes? Find out if you are you of the Netherlands top 20 – most promising academic startups of 23/24. Registrations are open on the 28th of September 2023!

🚀 𝐀𝐜𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐜 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐮𝐩 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 - 𝐏𝐢𝐭𝐜𝐡 𝐃𝐚𝐲 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐭 𝐏𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐥 & 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐑𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝 𝟮 - 𝐓𝐞𝐚𝐦 𝐏𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫!! 🚀 Such energy and inspiration! Yesterday, our most promising science-based startups came together for Pitch Day Impact Potential & a brand new content module: Team Power! A day full of insights, sharp pitches and valuable interactions. The day started with a warm welcome from Rebekah Bikker of BioPartner Leiden. We are grateful for their hospitality and thrilled to have them on board as a new partner. Immediately after, it was up to our teams to showcase how they’ve leveraged their Round 1 knowledge of purpose-led leadership, scientific novelty and IP strategy to elevate their pitch performance. 🔹 𝗙𝗼𝗰𝘂𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗣𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿: 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗶𝘀𝗲, 𝗯𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗻𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 The afternoon began with inspiring keynotes, followed by breakout sessions where startups explored team dynamics, company culture, and the HR Roadmap. A heartfelt thank you to Ingrid Tappin 🏳️🌈 from Diverse Leaders in Tech and Martine Buis for guiding our startups in uncovering the essentials of a strong startup foundation! Special thanks also to another new partner, BrainCompass, a scientifically-based assessment that offers valuable insights into the talents, motivations, and areas for development of individuals. 🗓️ 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭'𝐬 𝐧𝐞𝐱𝐭? 🚀 Kick-Off ASC 2024/25: A Day of Insights, Strategy, and Collaboration Last Friday, we officially launched the Academic Startup Competition program at Omnia Wageningen University, bringing together our Top 40 science-based startups for an inspiring and action-packed day! 🏁The event began with opening remarks from Maxime Lübbers, Carolien Kroeze (Wageningen University & Research), and Margrethe Jonkman (Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam), setting the stage for impactful discussions. In the Disruptor Dialogues, thought leaders like Constantijn Van Oranje-Nassau, Luc Scheres (Surfix), and Birgit Dekkers (Rival Foods) shared their perspectives on turning scientific discoveries into groundbreaking ventures. Program Director Arjan Goudsblom outlined the competition timeline and introduced our amazing teams, captains, challengers, and partners. 💪🏻 🎤The afternoon featured Round 1: Impact Potential with the question: “How big can this be?” Keynotes from Jon Duschinsky, Nienke Dijkstra, Raynor van Eijck and Frodo Ferro provided valuable insights on leadership, unique technologies, and the importance of IP protection. Teams then rolled up their sleeves for breakout sessions, collaborating with captains, challengers, and experts to prepare for their February 10th presentations. 📈 🙌🏻We’re excited to see their output and learnings from this first Round. From there, the top 30 teams will move on to Round 2: ‘Who’s gonna do it?’, where team dynamics and support networks will take center stage.
