In honour of #WorldToiletDay, we are celebrating the impact of improved sanitation at Kaveta Primary School in Kitui County. The new girls' sanitation block has transformed the pupils' health, dignity, and learning environment, ensuring every girl has access to safe and clean facilities. Yesterday, together with our partners Partnership for African Social & Governance Research (PASGR) and Kenya Water for Health Organization we hosted a transformative session on water and sanitation governance in Africa, focusing on the crucial roles of youth and women. The event featured a range of insightful presentations and discussions. Participants learned about Youth Parliaments in Kenya and their impact on water governance. The ACCOUNTABILITY FOR WATER - AFW team shared research-based opportunities for improving youth and women's involvement in the sector. A panel of experts, including Emmanuel Uguru from AMCOW, Sareen Malik from ANEW, Brian Kwena of KWAHO and Rose Njage of PASGR, discussed various strategies for promoting gender equality and youth engagement in African water management.  The event concluded with a focus on household water connection solutions and a powerful Call to Action, emphasizing the importance of youth and women in shaping the future of water and sanitation in Africa. Our program partner KEWASNET last week convened a 2-day technical working group with key stakeholders in the water sector to discuss critical issues around water governance and accountability in the counties. Led by KEWASNET CEO, Malesi Shivaji, the group emphasized the ongoing struggle Kenyans face in accessing clean water services, despite substantial budget allocations over the years.
