The HIV community has always found ways to persevere, even in the face of political upheaval. From the Reagan Administration to today, our movement has fought for progress, dignity, and the lives of people living with and impacted by HIV. Now more than ever, we must unite to resist harmful policies, uplift marginalized voices, and demand a future where everyone has equitable access to care and support. Working to end the HIV epidemic in the United States through strategic grant-making, capacity building and policy.
About us
AIDS United is singularly focused on ending the HIV epidemic in the United States. During our almost 30-year history, we have changed and grown the funding landscape for HIV and transformed the policy environment. To date we have directly funded more than $98 million to local communities and have leveraged more than $115 million in additional support for programs that include access to care for people living with HIV, capacity building for community-based organizations, HIV prevention, advocacy, syringe access, and more. Through our Public Policy Committee, we’ve built the largest and strongest coalition of HIV-focused organizations working at the community level. Our coalition works together every day to ensure national and local policies reflect local realities and support an effective response to the end of AIDS.

In these times of urgency, #POZmagazine reached out to a brain trust of respected leaders, including Jesse Milan, Jr., JD for guidance. "I really urge folks living with HIV to try to come to #AIDSWatch 2025 in DC on March 16 to 18, the annual event where people with HIV and AIDS and their advocates are trained to speak to their reps on Capitol Hill and then go there in teams to share their personal stories that show how crucial Ryan White, #Medicaid, the ACA, #PEPFAR, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the NIH [The National Institutes of Health] funding are to our communities." In honor of this #WorldAIDSDay, AIDS United alongside 57 advocacy organizations sent a letter to the Biden administration thanking them for the gains they have made in pursuit of achieving the goals of the National HIV/AIDS Strategy over the past four years and urging the next Administration to prioritize efforts to end the HIV epidemic and increase the quality of life for all people living with HIV in this country. As we transition to a new administration and a new Congress, we will continue to push for increased federal commitments to ending the HIV epidemic in the United States and across the globe and will work diligently with our federal partners to ensure that the goals of the National HIV/AIDS Strategy are met. AIDS United joins the global HIV/AIDS community in commemorating #WorldAIDSDay — a day to honor the resilience of those living with HIV, remember the lives lost, and amplify the voices of champions and survivors still fighting for change. AIDS United’s commitment to this work remains steadfast. As of December 2023, our strategic grant-making initiatives have directly invested more than $137 million in local communities. “Our work to end the HIV epidemic is critical to reducing HIV transmissions, increasing access to PrEP, and preventing new HIV-related cases and deaths, said Jesse Milan, Jr., JD, President & CEO of #AIDSUnited. It is vital to sustain and strengthen HIV programs in the communities most impacted by the epidemic.” World AIDS Day is not only a moment of reflection but also a call to action. Recent challenges only highlight the urgency of sustaining and accelerating programs and policies that drive progress. As we approach a new Congress and administration in 2025, we are focused on preserving policy wins and advancing advocacy at every level—federal, state, and local. Initiatives like #AIDSWatch in Washington, DC, and #AIDSWatchatHome with state legislatures will be essential for sustaining momentum, fostering progress, and cultivating new champions for the fight against HIV. Grounded in our movement’s rich legacy, we invite you to unite with us in championing our mission to end the HIV epidemic. Together, we can sustain progress and accelerate the journey ahead. We’re thrilled to celebrate Mackenzie Flynn, our Policy and Annual Conference Manager, who presented a workshop at the Healthy Teen Network's 44th Annual National Conference in Phoenix, AZ! In her workshop, “YOUth Are the Experts! Youth Involvement in Syndemic Advocacy,” Mackenzie highlighted the crucial role young people play in advocating for their health and wellbeing. While they often find themselves excluded from important conversations, many youth are already leading the charge on issues like racial justice, LGBTQIA+ health, and reproductive rights. By equipping youth with the resources they need, we can uplift their voices and prioritize what truly matters to them. We’re so proud of Mackenzie for sharing her expertise and empowering the next generation of advocates! Are you interested in presenting at a conference? AIDSWatch 2025, taking place March 16-18, 2025, in Washington, D.C., has an open call for abstracts (due December 6th)!
