Here’s the latest progress update from our Bridges to Prosperity team, who’ve been working hard to bring this project to life and make a lasting impact on the community: Day 8: Overcoming Challenges. 95% of swing placements are done, and decking installation is underway! Despite supply issues, our team found creative solutions—this bridge is coming to life! Day 9: Near the Finish Line! Decking installation is nearly done, scaffolding is down, and fencing work is underway. Locals played a big role, hand-breaking rocks for backfill and smoothing out the bridge entry. Day 10: Final Touches. With decking, torquing, and pipe stabilization complete, we’re moving on to safety features. Handrail and restraint cables are in place, and fencing is halfway done. Concrete curbs are poured, leaving just fencing, paint, and final details before we cross the finish line!

Our team in Rwanda has been capturing daily highlights from the field—here’s a look at their first days working together: Day 1: A long travel day filled with music, local market stops, and stunning views of Lake Kivu. Seeing a completed 2021 bridge in use reminded us why we’re here! Day 2: Time to build! The local team had already set up scaffolding and painted the tower. We got to work—stretching, dancing, cutting rebar, and raising the bridge tower. The day ended with a well-earned celebration of our progress. Day 3: Cable Day—our toughest challenge yet! We pulled and secured cables across the bridge, and wrapped up another day of progress. Stay tuned for more updates as the team keeps building!

Over the next two weeks, 10 of our team members are embarking on a life-changing mission to Rwanda where we will help a local community build the Bizenga Trail Bridge with Bridges to Prosperity. This 93-meter suspension bridge will connect 2,906 people in the Nyamasheke District of western Rwanda to schools, healthcare, and markets – resources currently cut off during the annual rainy season by the dangerous Karundura River. Follow our team’s journey building this critical structure for the Rwanda community.
