I went into the hydrogen business to help our heavy industries with their carbon footprint. CO2 emissions are still climbing, and the U.S. still isn’t doing enough to turn the tide. The Global Carbon Budget is a framework that tracks how much CO2 humanity emits and compares it to the amount the planet can absorb without causing dangerous warming. It’s like a financial budget, but instead of money, it’s about how much carbon we can “spend” before we exceed key temperature thresholds, like the 1.5°C goal. Right now, we’re burning through our Carbon Budget faster than ever, with no peak in sight. Global CO2 emissions are expected to reach 37.4 billion metric tons for 2024, once again breaking the record. For the U.S., this means we have a shrinking window to make big changes. If we don’t slash emissions quickly, we’ll blow our carbon budget and face devastating consequences from extreme weather, rising sea levels, and economic instability. As “once in 1,000 years” disasters become more common, we’ll end up paying heavy costs for recovery and mitigation. Every ton of CO2 emitted puts us closer to overspending — and the consequences of overdrawing this “account” are irreversible. A third of U.S. carbon emissions come from processes that can’t be decarbonized with renewable electricity on its own — like ammonia, the basis for crop fertilizers worldwide, or generating high-temperature industrial heat. We need clean molecules like green hydrogen, made by electrolyzers from wind and solar power and water, to take on the toughest decarbonization challenges we face. We can even make renewable liquid fuels from these molecules, energy-dense enough to power jet planes. The technology is commercially ready to make big cuts to our economy-wide carbon footprint and the urgency to act has never been higher. #ActOnClimate #CarbonBudget #Decarbonization #GreenHydrogen

With the upcoming change in administration, the IRS must finalize its rules for the section 45V green hydrogen tax credit under the IRA in the next few weeks — or risk delaying critical progress. Check the comments below for a link to Maeve Allsup’s great write-up in Latitude Media on the implications of the Republican trifecta for green hydrogen (including a quote from yours truly!). The clock is ticking, and it’s more essential than ever to get these rules finalized. While overly restrictive rules could limit green hydrogen from reaching its full potential, not having final rules at all before the Inauguration could deal a paralyzing blow to our plans to decarbonize heavy industry. Alternatively, if we get these rules out promptly, we can get on with the critical business of building domestic supply chains and manufacturing of electrolyzers, as well as developing the actual electrolysis facilities themselves. This, in turn, will enable the U.S. to rise to a position of dominance in green hydrogen and related fuels and feedstocks that can:  👉 cut emissions fast 👉 create jobs 👉 show the world how to do it. But we need stable rules that everyone can get behind, so that we can get down to business without further delays. #GreenHydrogen #45V #Decarbonization

Are you in Philadelphia this week for Green Hydrogen Summit East Coast? I’ll be joining a panel at 11:45am today called “Closing The Renewables Gap: How Do We Find the Renewable Power to Produce Green Hydrogen?” If hourly matching is adopted, renewable power purchasing for green hydrogen becomes much more complex. Producers will need to build a portfolio of regional suppliers including a mix of wind and solar power to keep electrolyzers running at high capacity. It’s not just a matter of adding more renewables to the grid — though that’s part of the solution. For a thriving green hydrogen ecosystem, we’ll need a wider variety of renewables and carbon free generation with a mix of production profiles available at strategic locations around the country. So how do we make this happen? Stop by our panel and join the conversation! #GreenHydrogen #RenewableEnergy #Wind #Solar Green Hydrogen Summit Series #GHEC24 #Greenhydrogensummit

Hydrogen derivatives aren't limited to just ammonia and e-fuels. Green hydrogen can be used as a feedstock to produce specialty chemicals that are used in all sorts of common products like plastics and food products. This week, I’ve been excited to share how green hydrogen as a clean feedstock can decarbonize these products at Change Chemistry’s Innovators Roundtable being held at the Nike World Headquarters and to interact with a broad coalition of stakeholders driving to change how we produce and use chemicals. At Ambient Fuels, we’re pushing the boundaries of what’s possible with zero-carbon hydrogen. During my Startup Network Pitch Presentation, I discussed how chemicals producers can decarbonize their operations by shifting from carbon-heavy gray hydrogen (made from natural gas) to green hydrogen — an easy way to reduce emissions in the chemicals sector. #GreenHydrogen #Sustainability #Decarbonization #Chemicals

Did you know that aviation contributes 9% of all transportation-related greenhouse gas emissions in the U.S. and 2.5% of total emissions? ✈️💨 While battery technology works wonders for cars and is beginning to make headway for shorter flights, the weight and fire risks of lithium-ion technology make it unsuitable for long-haul aviation. As we strive for net-zero goals, it’s clear that electrification alone won’t get us there. That’s why clean fuels — made from green hydrogen — are key to the future of sustainable aviation. At Ambient Fuels, we’re excited to see the U.S. Senate establish the Sustainable Aviation Caucus and proud to support the forward-thinking Senators leading this charge. This new initiative will play a pivotal role in promoting legislation that accelerates innovation and deployment of low-carbon aviation solutions. With continued collaboration between industry and government, we can make sustainable flight a part of our future. ✈️🌍 #SAF #SustainableAviationFuel #Decarbonization #Sustainability #GreenHydrogen

Maritime shipping is a major contributor to global greenhouse gas emissions, largely due to its reliance on heavy bunker fuels: They release dangerous pollutants like sulfur oxide and nitrogen oxide. In fact, researchers from The International Council on Clean Transportation found that emissions from shipping were linked to 15% of global premature deaths from air pollution. 🚢💨 That’s why it’s so encouraging to see the International Maritime Organization stepping up to support cleaner, zero-carbon fuels such as ammonia. 👏 This is a huge leap towards a more sustainable future for the maritime industry and a healthier planet. Let’s continue pushing for the adoption of innovative solutions that will make shipping a greener and safer industry for all! #Ammonia #GreenAmmonia #CleanAmmonia #Decarbonization #Sustainability #GreenHydrogen

The U.S. DOE Loan Programs Office is driving industrial decarbonization forward despite significant barriers — high costs, limited infrastructure, and a shortage of commercially ready technologies. These challenges make it difficult for developing industries like green hydrogen to scale, but the Loan Programs Office is playing a crucial role in bridging the gap. With strategic financing through the Title 17 and CIFIA programs, the Loan Programs Office is supporting projects such as IRG Erie and Bioforge Marshall, which are cutting emissions and reshoring production in the U.S. Initiatives like these lay the groundwork for innovations in sectors like green hydrogen, where early-stage support is key to maturing technology and reducing costs. Hydrogen's potential as a zero-emission energy source is huge, but developing the infrastructure to produce, transport, and utilize it remains a significant hurdle. By backing projects that build essential infrastructure, LPO is paving the way for green hydrogen developers like Ambient Fuels to accelerate deployment in more industries. This kind of public-private collaboration is exactly what’s needed to meet net-zero goals and support emerging industries that can redefine the industrial landscape. Kudos to the Department of Energy and its Loans Program Office for being at the forefront of these transformative efforts! 👏💡 #LPO #IndustrialDecarbonization #Decarbonization #Sustainability #GreenHydrogen

  • Today (10/08) is National Hydrogen Day, chosen for hydrogen’s atomic weight of 1.008. There's no better time to celebrate the progress green hydrogen is making around the globe. Europe is already leading the way, with large-scale green hydrogen projects moving forward to help decarbonize refining and other heavy industrial processes. The U.S. is not far behind. With the right policies and investments, 2025 could be the tipping point for green hydrogen in America. We expect the IRS to issue final guidelines for tax credit qualification by the end of the year. This will bring crucial certainty to the market, attracting tax equity investment for projects. Let's harness the momentum and build a greener tomorrow together! 🚀 #GreenHydrogen #Sustainability #Decarbonization #Hydrogen
