Empowering young people to strengthen communities, build careers, and improve the environment.
About us
American YouthWorks helps young people realize their full potential and effect positive change within their community. Through our two primary education and career training programs, YouthBuild Austin and our Conservation Corps, we provide the building blocks for learning and engagement that young people can build upon as they grow into adulthood. Conservation Corps crew members conserve natural landscapes and recreation areas across the Central Southern United States. Our Disaster Response Teams are deployed to assist communities impacted by natural disasters such as Hurricanes Harvey, Maria, and Irma. In our YouthBuild Austin program, young people have the opportunity to complete their high school education while simultaneously serving the Greater Austin community being engaged in valuable vocational training in the growing Healthcare, IT and Construction industries. American YouthWorks connects young people with the tools and resources that we all need to reach career goals and achieve academic success. Our students and crew members have access to wrap-around support services and a network of resources, as well as receive post-graduation college and career guidance. Our instructors, counselors, and crew leaders are dedicated to every student and participant who comes to American YouthWorks. We believe in our community of young people and their commitment to accomplish their goals, make a positive impact in the lives of others, and become agents of change in their own lives.

Since Hurricane Helene made landfall in late September, AmeriCorps has been coordinating with the FEMA, federal partners, the American Red Cross, and others to begin recovery efforts and deploy members to impacted states, including Florida, Texas, Virginia, and South Carolina. More than 100 AmeriCorps members from AmeriCorps NCCC and FEMA Corps are on the ground in affected communities: ☑️ assisting with debris removal, mucking, and gutting. ☑️ providing disaster survivor assistance. ☑️ helping deploy FEMA staff to Florida and other affected areas. ☑️ sorting and distributing donations. ☑️ additional teams will deploy to North Carolina and Georgia to provide disaster survivor assistance. As we have done for the past 30 years, AmeriCorps will continue to provide recovery support to the hundreds of thousands affected by Hurricane Helene. A huge congrats and welcome to the future class of 2025! 🎉 These upcoming community health workers are not only driven, mature, and passionate, but they've chosen the perfect program to launch their healthcare careers. 🚀 American YouthWorks with its long-standing mission of empowering youth through education and workforce development, continues to excel in hands-on training for essential vocational and technical careers. Since 1975, it has shaped students' futures through experiential learning and community service. With over a decade of public health experience—starting as a CNA, PCT and growing into a Hospital Administrator and medical management role—I'm excited to pass on my knowledge to the next generation of healthcare professionals. 👩⚕️👨⚕️ #Healthcare #CommunityHealth #FutureLeaders #AmericanYouthWorks #HealthcareEducation #NextGeneration

Happy 30th anniversary to the first class of AmeriCorps members! On September 12, 1994, more than 20,000 Americans raised their hands to serve our communities, leave a positive impact, and transform lives. Thank you to these alums, like Laura, Philip, and Rob, for their dedication to service and for paving the way for millions more Americans to join the national service movement to address communities' most urgent needs.
