The ongoing war and aftermath of the October 7th attacks have left over 83% of Israeli children struggling with anxiety and stress. This year, we’re highlighting a new partnership between NATAL and Ananey Paramount, the Israeli division of Paramount. Together, we’re creating videos featuring beloved kids' TV personalities to help children like Yarin find resilience and joy during stressful times. Yarin’s life has been shaped by constant stress, but with support he’s learning to process emotions, rediscover confidence, and embrace joy. His story is a reminder of what’s possible with support. Emmy Award Winner, Yuval David, serves as our auctioneer at tomorrow's "Voices of Resilience Gala". All proceeds from the auction will benefit NATAL, Israel's Trauma and Resiliency Center, on projects selected by NATAL's esteemed scientific advisory board. The highlight of tomorrow's art auction is a collection called "Helmets for Heroes" by an organization called Brush, whose mission is to support mental health through art, where helmets serve as a canvas to illustrate the invisible wounds of trauma, while celebrating the possibilities of growth an recovery. Artists were selected by Brush and each artist was given complete freedom to redesign or paint an IDF helmet using their own unique style. Last night the Kaplen JCC on the Palisades, and the Jewish Federation of Northern New Jersey #🟦#🟦#🟦#🟦#🟦#🟦#🟦#🟦 hosted two deeply impactful events in collaboration with American Friends of NATAL and NATAL (Israel Trauma and Resiliency Center). These events were designed to support our community as we navigate the challenges of collective trauma, including the tragedy of October 7th, the ongoing war, and the rise in antisemitism. The Professional Deep Dive, led by Professor Rivka Tuval-Mashiach offered essential tools for caregivers, first responders, and mental health professionals dealing with compassion fatigue and burnout. The Community Panel Discussion provided a space to reflect on our challenges, celebrate our strengths, and explore actionable steps to foster healing and resilience. Key Takeaways for Building Community Resilience: 1️⃣ Human Connection Matters Loneliness is a poison. Connecting with others—whether through heartfelt conversations or simple, meaningful interactions—can be profoundly healing. Identify your support system and don’t hesitate to reach out to them. 2️⃣ Live with Purpose and Determination Find things that are meaningful to you, and pursue them with purpose and mission. Differentiate between what you can control and what you can’t. While we can’t control the war, we can control how we respond—through action, care, and determination. 3️⃣ Recognize and Address Guilt Many in our community struggle with guilt, even the heroes who fought to save lives on October 7th. Guilt is a natural response to these events, but we cannot let it consume us. Acknowledging it as a shared, human experience is the first step toward moving forward. These conversations reinforced the importance of community. Resilience doesn’t mean doing it alone—it’s about leaning on each other, fostering connections, and finding strength together. Our impact is clear in the numbers. Since October 7th, NATAL’s Clinical Unit has delivered 38,800 hours of treatment—an incredible 380% increase over last year. As of October 2024, our patients include: 53% reservists 13% Nova Festival survivors 12% residents from the Gaza envelope area and evacuees 9% people dealing with past trauma 12% managing general anxiety 1% families of hostages Where once most patients came from central Israel, we now serve hundreds from the South and North. Not all wounds are visible. NATAL prioritizes the mental well-being of those experiencing invisible wounds, like our Veterans here and abroad. Our programs and partnerships are positioned to best equip our veterans with the tools they need to cope, heal, and live. Over 50% of patients in the clinical unit are reservists / Veterans - it’s core to our mission. Thank you to all who have served to keep our nations safe.
