  • We had the pleasure of hosting a workshop on the use of drones in forestry for a group of foresters in Co. Monaghan. Throughout the session, we demonstrated the evolution of drone technology using our drone fleet as an example, highlighting how drones equipped with RGB, lidar, and multispectral sensors can capture detailed data on forest stands, health, tree species and even detect early signs of disease. It was fantastic to see such a great turnout, with a high level of engagement and interest from the participants. The workshop included walk-throughs of different drones and sensors, hands-on flight demonstrations and a lively Q&A session. A big thank you to Western Forestry Co-op for the invitation and the opportunity to connect with foresters about how drone technology can support sustainable forest management. 🌲 Get in touch to learn how drones can help to manage your forests more efficiently! 📧 info@aat.earth 🌐 https://aat.earth #Forestry #UAV #lidar #SustainableForestry

🌍 3D model of Liffey Head Bog in the Wicklow Mountains 📸 5,000 images | 400 hectares We recently completed a drone survey over Liffey Head bog, which is currently undergoing restoration. The detailed data captured through this survey supports ongoing conservation efforts for this crucial ecosystem. Peatlands are essential for carbon storage, biodiversity, and water regulation. Monitoring restoration progress is key to understanding and protecting these fragile landscapes. Restoration efforts carried out by National Parks and Wildlife Service here include re-wetting the bog by blocking drains to raise water levels, creating conditions that encourage the recovery of peat-forming species like Sphagnum moss. #DroneSurvey #3DMapping #PeatlandRestoration #UAV #EnvironmentalMonitoring

  • The office for the day 🏔️ We’ve just wrapped up an incredible drone survey of the river Burren in Co. Carlow, using lidar and RGB sensors to map the river—work that would have taken weeks, if not months, on foot. The lidar sensor allowed us to capture high-resolution data of the riverbanks, surrounding vegetation, and changes in topography—without disturbing the natural habitat. From the mountain where the river begins to the winding waterway below, we covered an extensive area that would be nearly impossible to access on foot in such a short time. Using drones not only saves time but also reduces environmental impact, making it a win-win for both conservation efforts and data accuracy. 📊 Interested in how drone surveys can help your environmental projects? • Drone mapping is not only about technical expertise; it also requires physical fitness. Here's our Cian Gallagher climbing up a mountain to secure a clear line of sight and network coverage for our recent survey. Mapping in valleys and mountain ranges can be challenging due to inconsistent internet coverage and unpredictable weather conditions (we are in Ireland, after all). Yet our commitment to accuracy and reliability drives us to overcome these obstacles. We conducted multispectral and lidar surveys of streams and riparian zones in the mountains of Co. Mayo. The data collected helps us analyse the state of the local ecosystem, vegetation health and water content using various indices like NDVI and NDWI. Bonus perk: the views of Irish landscapes never disappoint (just need a bit of luck with the weather) 🌄 Follow us for more updates and insights on our drone mapping projects and the work we do to support environmental monitoring! #RemoteSensing #EarthObservation #drones #HabitatMapping #lidar
