🏘️ Ever wonder how to add extra space to a Craftsman home without losing its character? Check out this stunning transformation! After determining that buying a larger house wasn't for them, this family decided to expand their beloved Craftsman by adding a second floor. The challenge? Modernize while preserving its unique charm. The clever solution: ▪ Extended roof pitch for full second story with front/back dormers, preserving original porch and roofline while doubling interior space ▪ Reused roof rafters and installed rough-cut boards under eaves for seamless integration ▪ Added second story freed up downstairs space for expanded indoor/outdoor living ▪ Removed back bedroom to create great room with 13-foot accordion door, connecting kitchen to outdoors Result? Growing family but not enough space? Our lower terrace clients added more space without adding a square foot. Our client's goal was to create a second bedroom, but they were conscious of the fact that we they didn’t have a lot of space and didn’t want to block off light. The house almost had two living rooms. When you walked in there was a tiny area that fed you into the first of two living rooms and it made a lot of sense to convert the front living room into their daughter’s bedroom. 👀 Sneak peek of before and after. 📝 Note the space saving solution of the pocket doors.
