I always liked this picture of a "V" way being hardened. This shows off the European craftsmanship designed into these lathes. Tri Vee ways promote more surface contact and greater precision than traditional box ways. It was pointed out to me earlier that a "V" way is similar in concept as a tapered tool holder in a mill. As it ages, it wears in even more precision, more rigidity and more accuracy.
