This year has been an incredibly productive one for my academic work—I’m thrilled to share that I’ve had 12 peer-reviewed journal articles published or available online early so far! 🎉 To celebrate, I’m starting a short series of posts highlighting my recent research and its key takeaways. Let’s kick things off! Payment Plans in Veterinary Medicine 🐾💳 Together with amazing coauthors and funding from Maddie’s Fund, I explored this critical topic through two articles and a practical decision tool. Article 1: Payment plans and veterinary services: Do they reduce the pain of pet owner payment? 📄 Read the article here (coauthored with Peilu Zhang): (https://lnkd.in/et27gh6n) Key Insights: Payment plans significantly reduce the "pain of payment" (PoP) and make veterinary care more accessible, especially for lower-income pet owners. Using theoretical models and empirical experiments, we showed that these plans can boost demand and shift purchasing behavior. Demographics and perceptions of affordability play a big role in how these plans are received. Article 2: What are the risks of clinic-backed payment plans? 📄 Read the article here (coauthored with Jayden Roberts, Jorge Colon, and Peilu Zhang): (https://lnkd.in/eKQ-UbKs) AVMA Journals Key Insights: Clinic-backed payment plans can increase revenue and client access to care. However, they come with challenges, including labor, legal, and marketing risks. Financial simulations and risk assessments shed light on how clinics can balance these factors effectively. Decision Tools: To make this research actionable, we created decision tools (both Excel and web-based) to help clinics evaluate payment plan options. Explore the tools here:https://lnkd.in/en5YFPxG Try the Web-Based Tool here: https://lnkd.in/ebqePGwE Thank you to Maddie’s Fund and my incredible coauthors for making this work possible. Stay tuned for more updates from my research! #VeterinaryMedicine #PaymentPlans #AcademicResearch #ThanksToMaddie Suzanne Cannon, MS, MA What do you think? Could payment plans be a game changer in veterinary medicine? Let’s discuss! 💬
