It’s been a busy award season for our co-workers. We’re thrilled to announce that our Carolinas team snagged the 2024 Specialty Contractor Project of the Year for the Saint Albans Residential development in Raleigh, NC. From preconstruction to final delivery, collaboration with the owner, general contractor, design team, and city helped ensure these buildings were completed ahead of schedule and with exceptional results. As we honor co-workers who achieved major milestones with Baker in 2024, we can't help but be inspired by Vice President of Operations, Darrell Whiteside. Darrell joined Baker 50 years ago, inspired by founder Dan L. Baker and our values of People, Honor, and Grit. Starting in South Florida, he’s made an impact across the Southeast, most recently strengthening Baker’s presence in Southwest Florida’s commercial market. Darrell is proud to have mentored many co-workers who’ve become leaders and cherishes the friendships and learning experiences he’s gained along the way. As we continue to honor co-workers who achieved major milestones with Baker in 2024, we celebrate Senior Project Superintendent Kenneth Lewis on an incredible 45-year career with our team. Kenneth began at Gulf Coast Forms at just 18, joining Baker in 1989 through its acquisition. Starting as a form superintendent, he advanced to turnkey superintendent, then took on precast, structural, and finally industrial projects, where he spent the rest of his career. Kenneth valued “the satisfaction of doing the job right” and took pride in building strong teams and lasting relationships. We are continuing to honor those co-workers who reached major milestones with us in 2024. Today we are featuring Operations Manager J.R. McDonald, who is celebrating 45 years with Baker. Joining us in 1989 after Baker acquired Gulf Coast Forms, J.R. quickly mastered the concrete side of the business. His career took off internationally with the Atlantis resort project in The Bahamas, sparking a passion for global work that’s taken him to places like Saint Martin, Aruba, Puerto Rico, Africa, and beyond. A dedicated mentor, J.R. is also proud of Baker’s support for the Star Trackers Track & Field Club, which has awarded around 40 scholarships to Bahamian athletes. Reflecting on his journey, he says, “I’d like to thank Dan Baker and Gary Benson for the opportunity. Today we turn the spotlight on Mike Rohrmeier, a general superintendent who celebrated 40 years with us this year. Starting as a carpenter in 1983, Mike has worked on iconic projects like Arlington Cemetery, the Kansas City Chiefs Stadium, and Cincinnati’s Contemporary Arts Center. He’s all about the hard work — getting in the mud and coming home dirty every day. For Mike, Baker is family. One of his proudest projects, the Cincinnati Bengals stadium (now Paycor Stadium), came full circle: 30 years after his father-in-law helped build the original stadium, Mike and his son helped build its replacement.
