Today, at the Barcelona Deep Tech Summit, our CEO, Marta P Estarellas, shared insights on the future of #QuantumComputing in an interview with Ruth Gumbau. 🎙 These are the key points we extracted from the session: 🏔 As we reach the limits of classical computing, #QuantumTech is the clear contender as the next breakthrough, enabling advancements in areas like drug discovery and climate simulation. 💡#AI drives innovation now, but future applications will require even more computing power. Quantum technology is crucial for handling this, and we’re pushing to make it more accessible. ♻️ #QuantumComputing can already tackle complex day-to-day issues like warehouse management and hospital operations with quantum-inspired algorithms. ⚛️ In 2021, we brought Spain’s first quantum computer to the Barcelona Supercomputing Center, a major milestone for democratizing this tech and empowering companies and innovation teams to understand and leverage quantum solutions. 🌱 As Marta mentioned, classical systems can’t fully capture nature’s complexity, which is intrinsically quantum. This is why at Qilimanjaro we are developing quantum computers to model these complex quantum systems. 🌍 Barcelona has a unique position to lead in this field, with institutions like ICFO, top universities, and the Barcelona Supercomputing Center making it a potential hub for #QuantumInnovation. Is the EU ‘losing the pace’ in the adoption of AI? This was the question put to the panel at the Barcelona Deep Tech Summit last week Myself, Juan, Mercè, Josep and Sara discussed the systemic barriers and day-to-day challenges associated with adopting AI into healthcare. In summary, here are some key considerations for innovators, clinicians, investors and the wider community: 1) In the healthcare realm, safety is priority. Therefore, incremental solutions with strong clinical evidence are more likely to be adopted than solutions which disrupt current workflows entirely 2) Explainability in not optional. ‘Black boxes’ have never, and will never cut it in medicine. Rightly so. 3) Regulatory certification (CE, UKCA, FDA) is certainly a milestone, but each user/site will likely require proof that your solution performs reliably on the local population. Plan for local pilots. 4) It’s high time for EU (and UK) academic institutions to adopt a more progressive approach towards the commercialisation of Deep Tech. Conservative attitudes towards tech transfer are currently stifling innovation. By releasing the chokehold on spin-outs, we can unlock the full potential of groundbreaking research and drive economic growth. If we don’t, to paraphrase Josep Ll. #Transferència | La setmana passada es va celebrar el Barcelona Deep Tech Summit, i amb aquesta tercera edició es consolida com l’esdeveniment de referència per a la transferència científica i tecnològica, reunint la comunitat #DeepTech internacional al recinte de Fira Barcelona, Gran Via, durant tres dies, en el marc de l'Smart City Expo World Congress. Aquest any, el congrés ha girat al voltant de la intel·ligència artificial, la transició energètica, la sostenibilitat, la mobilitat, la salut digital i l’espai, amb la presència d'experts i professionals de primer nivell que han compartit coneixement i inspiració. L'ecosistema Deep Tech s'ha posicionat com a motor de la societat per a un futur més sostenible. #Startups punteres hi van presentar les seves innovacions per a un futur millor davant d'un públic estratègic, com inversors i gestors de capital risc especialitzat d’arreu d’Europa que cerquen solucions disruptives per impulsar-les amb el seu suport. La #UPFBarcelona va participar amb alguns dels seus projectes emprenedors més destacats: FORESEE i MiWEndo Solutions. Ambdós projectes, nascuts de la recerca que es duu a terme a EnginyEria UPF, estan desenvolupant solucions disruptives per al sector mèdic. Van tenir l'oportunitat de mostrar les seves innovacions tant a l’espai d’expositors com al Pitch Corner. A més, Miwendo també va ser un dels tres finalistes als Barcelona Deep Tech Summit Awards, un reconeixement de gran valor a la seva innovació i al seu impacte en el sector de la salut. 🌐 Today wraps up the 3rd edition of the Barcelona Deep Tech Summit. The Summit brings together key figures from the global deep #tech ecosystem: expert speakers, startups, investors, institutions, research groups and the public administration to tackle international challenges such as energy transition and sustainability, through industry 4.0, mobility, digital health and space. #IESE is a strategic partner of the #event and has long been committed to exploring the main themes of this year’s conference: the ethics of algorithms and the democratization of access to technology. IESE Professor Mª Julia Prats and Josemaria Siota, Executive Director of the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Center, participated in sessions with leading executives from Volvo Group and Capagro.
