Had a great time at the Whole Person Care Conference hosted by California Institute for Behavioral Health Solutions California Council of Community Behavioral Health Agencies (CBHA) and California Primary Care Association. Being around community was very important, especially given this past week’s events. It was great seeing my colleagues on the CYBHI Scaling EBPs/CDEPs Grant project in person, reconnecting with long time friends and making new connections. I enjoyed learning about the amazing work being done to help communities across the state and the US to make behavioral health more accessible and effective to ultimately improve the quality of life for all. Thank you to all the speakers and presenters for your uplifting and inspiring messages. I feel more encouraged than ever to continue to help behavioral health organizations leverage their data to make their programs and practices more effective, sustainable, and impactful.

🌟 Exciting News to Share! 🌟 I’m thrilled to announce that we successfully helped Horizon Treatment Services secure a multi-year MHSA contract with Alameda County Behavioral Health Services valued at over $2.4 million to implement Arrest Diversion and Triage Center services! 🎉 This achievement is a testament to the hard work, dedication, and expertise of the team. As a grant and RFP writing consultant, one of my favorite aspects of the job is working closely with clients to design their programs and outline an implementation plan that resonates with funders. My process involves understanding the client’s vision, refining the program’s strategy, and crafting a clear, feasible plan that aligns with the funder’s expectations and priorities. I’m incredibly proud of the collaboration and dedication that went into turning this vision into a reality. With this contract, Horizon is taking a significant step toward improving community outcomes by enhancing crisis intervention, expanding access to critical mental health and substance use services, and strengthening partnerships with law enforcement and local agencies. Through this work, I have no doubt that this program will create a more supportive, responsive, and effective system that help individuals in crisis find hope and recovery. A huge thank you to everyone who contributed to this effort. Let’s keep moving forward and creating positive change! 💙 If you or someone you know in the behavioral health or human services sector is interested in partnering on a grant or post-award program evaluation services, I’d love to connect!

  • What a wonderful conference - so glad for the opportunity to see Former First Lady Michelle Obama and NYT best selling author Isabel Wilkerson have an engaging fireside style chat and seeing my colleagues from Victor in line! And that’s a wrap for #NatCon24! Stood in line for most of the day to see Former First Lady Michelle Obama and New York Times best selling author Isabel Wilkerson having a fireside style chat. What a wonderful time hearing about the importance of staying grounded and staying connected with your community. I also was able to get a quick selfie with my friend and colleague Sharmelle Parker who I saw in line with the Victor team. All in all, an amazing conference to be able to learn and connect with others. Here’s to next year!

Amazing day 2 of #NatCon24! Thank you to SAMHSA’s Assistant Secretary Miriam Delphin-Rittmon, Ph.D for providing an overview of the projects SAMHSA is working on in collaboration with other federal departments, including helpful resources available through the department’s Center of Excellence TA center. Thanks to Aparna Mekala, MPH and team at the CohnReznick LLP booth - it was awesome to meet you in person and learn more about how you support CCBHCs around the country. Also shoutout to my colleagues in California - I’m so glad to attend the CA Association reception hosted by California Alliance of Child & Family Services and the California Council of Community Behavioral Health Agencies (CBHA). Thank you to Christine Stoner-Mertz and Le Ondra Clark Harvey, Ph.D. for your leadership and advocacy work in our great state - the Photo Booth was tons of fun!

Thank you to the National Council for Mental Wellbeing for hosting a wonderful CCBHC pre conference session. There were great presentations and discussions around strategies and techniques on developing a robust peer support workforce and the need to further define specific quality metric reporting requirements as it relates to the new CCBHC certification requirements. David de Voursney, the Division Director of Community Behavioral Health Center for Mental Health Services also gave a wonderful overview of the current status of CCBHCs and the future for expanding this model into other states. Looking forward to the official first day of NatCon24!
