Bangladesh is a low-lying country that is particularly vulnerable to flooding. When flooding occurs, education takes a hit, as schools — and the roads to them — are under water. Mohammed Rezwan created the Floating Schools of Bangladesh, a fleet of 26 floating schools — solar-powered boats that pick children up in their villages. Rezwan is one of four guests on a recent episode of "First Fridays," the Samuel Lawrence Foundation video podcast for which Blue Planet Alliance is a presenting partner. The "Education Innovation" episode also features educators Jeff Duncan-Andrade (San Francisco State University), Jelani Nelson (University of California, Berkeley), and Paige Morency (Basic Education Coalition). The Blue Planet Alliance is a 501(c)(3) organization established in 2020 by leading climate change advocate Henk Rogers,
About us
The non-profit builds upon monumental climate change policies and initiatives of his Hawaii-based Blue Planet Foundation. Established in 2008, the Foundation successfully passed the nation’s first 100% renewable energy law, requiring the State of Hawaii to commit to 100% clean energy by 2045. It also designed and implemented successful business models to guide Hawaii’s utility in transitioning to 100% renewable energy and continues to drive key policies shaping the State’s clean energy future. Having inspired other states and regions to take similar actions, Blue Planet Alliance was established to expand the Foundation’s efforts beyond Hawaii. Its mission is to regenerate the environment and become 100% sustainable by 2045. Through a “mandate first” approach to initiating global climate change action, the Alliance aims to create measurable and scalable initiatives and results among individuals, organizations, cities, states, countries and eventually, the world

The second time Napoleon was exiled, he was sent to a remote volcanic island far off the coast of Angola. Lucky him! The beautiful Saint Helena has amazing marine life, and a 699-step dizzying hike to the top of the island known as Jacob's Ladder. Saint Helena is one of 10 island nations and territories that participated in our third Blue Planet Alliance Fellowship Program, which took place in Hawaii in October, and brought the total of island countries who have matriculated through our Program to 28. We project that 70 countries and territories will come through our program by the end of 2026, which will be an incredibly powerful diplomatic bloc that can pressure the globe's largest polluters to ditch dirty energy, and end climate change. In the Tahitian language, "Rapa Nui" translates to "Big Rapa," distinguishing it from the smaller island of Rapa Iti, located about 400 miles away in French Polynesia. It is also known, globally, as Easter Island, and is celebrated for the 900-or-so enormous carved statues of human heads, known as moai. As the Galapagos Islands saw with biological evolution, Rapa Nui's isolation fostered a unique cultural evolution, which led to a sophisticated society that thrived independently for centuries. Rapa Nui is one of 10 island nations and territories that participated in our third Blue Planet Alliance Fellowship Program, which took place in Hawaii in October, and brought the total of island countries who have matriculated through our Program to 28. Just eight square miles in size, Nauru is the world's smallest island nation. It's larger than just two other countries in the world: Monaco and Vatican City. But it is demonstrating real leadership by exploring the transition to 100% renewable energy.
