About us

Blue Manta Consulting helps companies establish their GTM strategy, accelerate growth, and retain customers. Everyone knows that startups need a solid Go-To-Market strategy to scale But knowing something and successfully doing it are two different things (or else I’d have a six-pack 😂) Crafting a killer GTM strategy and executing it is much easier said than done And it’s critical you get it right because the right GTM approach can skyrocket your growth, but the wrong strategy will keep your startup grounded You need a partner with GTM expertise, experience, and perspective to help I’ve spent over a decade helping dozens of companies create and execute a winning GTM strategy and I want to partner with you too. 𝐈𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮’𝐫𝐞 𝐚 𝐁𝟐𝐁 𝐒𝐚𝐚𝐒 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐮𝐩 (𝐒𝐞𝐞𝐝 - 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐂) 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭: → Needs help defining & executing their GTM strategy → Is open to new perspectives, candid feedback, and change → Has a leadership team that’s eager to collaborate Then we should chat! GTM & Product Marketing for B2B SaaS Startups | Founder @ Blue Manta | Product Marketing Mentor | Kellogg MBA

The past week has been a whirlwind! I met so many incredible fintech startups at the FinTech Innovation Lab - startups changing the world of payments, cybersecurity, investment modeling, and more 💪 Really enjoyed being a panelist for the Effective GTM Strategies session yesterday alongside Jonathan Williams and Brij Shah! Incredible insights from folks that have been in the trenches themselves. Huge thank you to Billy Ndizeye, Joey Stern, and Xiaochen Z. for organizing this and for welcoming me a GTM Mentor! Looking forward to continuing to connect with this cohort over the next few months and meeting up again the FinTech Innovation Summit in January 🙌

the CEO was furious and called for an emergency meeting with GTM leaders word on the street (aka Slack) was that our new product launch (the one supposed to skyrocket sales & retention) was failing for context, it was two weeks past launch and average time in platform had plummeted by more than half CEO got us all in a room and started yelling about the launch myself (PMM) and the product leaders were calm because it's what we expected. after all, we made the product better! before the launch, it took 5 minutes to achieve value in our platform because everything was dispersed imagine going to multiple kitchens to make a meal - one to chop and cook veggies, another to bake your salmon, and a third to air fry your brussel sprouts - incredibly inefficient, right? that was the SaaS experience we were delivering for the launch, we integrated the various systems, introduced automation, streamlined the process, and as a result shortened that to under a minute and if you reduce the primary action from 5 minutes ➡️ <1 minute, time spent on platform decreases by 5x (note: it ended up not decreasing that much because users took MORE actions than before, which is what we were banking on) we explained this to the CEO and showed how # of actions had actually gone up and she was thrilled - the anger turned into excitement crisis averted! plus, it taught product & product marketing a good lesson: reinforce expectations post-product launch, so C-suite remains on the same page in other words, what do you expect the product launch's outcomes to be? in this case, we expected it to reduce time spent in platform while increasing number of actions completed we communicated that, but didn't make it a big enough deal to be memorable. we learned our lesson! p.s. what's an unexpected outcome you've had from a product launch? (could be unexpected for you, or to another stakeholder)

📋 How do you explain product marketing in a way that captures both its complexity and its impact? Product marketing is the voice of the company and product, making sure the value is clear, the vision is strong, and the message is impactful. On the other, PMMs are the advocate for the customer, championing their needs, solving their challenges, and ensuring they feel understood and valued. 💥 Thank you for today's insight Jonathan Pipek 🔱! 💥

I can't believe it's almost here 😬 next week, I'm joining my fellow PMMs at the Chicago Product Marketing Alliance Summit so excited to share how startups can grow more effectively (and efficiently!) via partnerships & community than via ads it won't just be theory, I'll be sharing recent, real-world examples like one startup that increased win rates by 47% using their community! see you there 🙌 p.s. if you haven't bought your ticket yet, use discount code "speaker20" to get 20% off #PMAChicago

🌶️ product marketers that can't say "NO" are 𝗴𝘂𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗳𝗮𝗶𝗹 (in the long run) here's Ron Swanson to tell us why 👇 "Never half-ass two things, whole-ass one thing" seriously though, PMMs take on too much because we *can* do a lot but working on more than a handful of initiatives at a time leads to Ron Swanson's disappointment and nobody wants that 🫣 𝘀𝗼, 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝟯 𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗼𝗼 𝗺𝘂𝗰𝗵: ✅ 𝗨𝘀𝗲 𝗮 𝗣𝗠𝗠 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗼 𝗵𝘆𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗼𝗰𝘂𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘀 I can't recommend this enough. Creating a charter and getting buy-in from cross-functional leaders on PMM's focus areas is such a game changer. It lets you focus on what matters, reassign non-PMM responsibilities, and gives you ammunition to say "No." when something falls out of your agreed-upon scope. ✅ 𝗔𝘀𝗸 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁 Sometimes it's literally a bandwidth thing. It's not easy to get approval to grow your team (especially now) but it's worth fighting for. Best way to justify the growth is to tie PMM's efforts to revenue & show the impact hiring another PMM would have on the business. ✅ 𝗛𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝗲𝘅𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗹, 𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 When you need temporary or less than full-time support (or you can't get headcount approved), consider hiring external support. Consider hiring a PMM agency (like Blue Manta Consulting) to help with IC level work too. They can provide support for product launches, sales collateral, EOLs, win/loss analysis, etc., while the rest of your team chugs along. p.s. what's your favorite Parks & Rec quote?

3 scary Go-to-Market sins you MUST avoid post-launch 🎃 👇 😱 THREE SCARY SINS You launched a couple of months ago. But things aren’t going well. The pressure is building… And it’s on you to fix it. When you’re under pressure and panicked, it’s easy to rationalize bad decisions. Take a step back. Breathe. 🧘♀️ And check you’re not making any of these 3 GTM mistakes: (all credit to Jonathan Pipek 🔱) ❌ 1) Doubling down When you’re faced with a lack of information, it’s natural to want to work harder to improve your results. But what got you here isn’t working. So avoid putting more effort into strategies and tactics that aren’t delivering. ❌ 2) Random Acts of Marketing This is a classic response. You’re under pressure, and getting unsolicited advice from stakeholders all across the org. (Be careful.) Don’t fall into the trap of executing Random Acts of Marketing to appease stakeholders. Figure out what’s *actually* broken before taking steps to fix things. ❌ 3) Panicked spot checking When things go wrong, stakeholders get gut feelings as to why. They’ll put you under pressure to “check this one extra thing”. Don’t guess blindly. Instead, use a #GTMAudit for a structured approach. Methodically move through each aspect of your strategy, uncover what’s not working, and fix things one at a time. Less haste. 🚶♂️ More speed. 🏃♂️ You got this. 💪 Have you committed any of these Go-to-Market sins? What other mistakes do you see GTM pros making when under pressure? #postlaunch #productlaunch #gotomarket

3 ways to prevent automation from ruining your customers' experience but first, a story... I've had a really 💩 experience with one of my vendors what's wild is I LOVED this vendor 8 months ago because they helped me build my business but now, I'm looking into switching to another vendor next year (even though they were personally referred and vouched for by a good friend of 10+ years) problem is that this business has relied waaaaaay too much on automation to scale they've built a metric ton of cookiecutter processes that supposedly help make things more efficient... but the majority don't apply to my business which means I send countless emails asking them to amend contracts, change details in the system, or edit their automation it's a PIA and makes for a terrible customer experience --- here are 3 ways to avoid creating a 💩 customer experience via automation: ✅ 𝗣𝘂𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳 𝗶𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗰𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗿𝘀' 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗲𝘀 Create a dummy account & see what the customer experience is like. Try doing this for your top 3 types of customers. Identify if there are ways you can make the experience more applicable to each. ✅𝗨𝘀𝗲 𝗽𝗶𝗹𝗼𝘁𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗮𝘂𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻  Before you launch an automation to your entire customer base, test it! Run a pilot with some customers that are extra vocal about feedback. See what they say and tweak accordingly before launching. ✅𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗽, 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗻 Make sure all your customer-facing teams have one central location to record customer feedback about automations. Analyze it monthly and share major themes with Product. p.s. what's your favorite automation?
