About us

The California Energy Commission, which is the state’s primary energy policy and planning agency, is committed to reducing energy costs and environmental impacts of energy use - such as greenhouse gas emissions - while ensuring a safe, resilient, and reliable supply of energy. Established in 1974, the Energy Commission has seven core responsibilities: advancing state energy policy, encouraging energy efficiency, certifying thermal power plants, investing in energy innovation, developing renewable energy, transforming transportation and preparing for energy emergencies.

    Commissioner at California Energy Commission

⚡ Today marks my last day at the California Energy Commission (CEC). Over the last five years, I’ve had the pleasure of working alongside the best and brightest who are working tirelessly to accelerate the state’s progress toward a clean energy future that’s equitable, safe, affordable and reliable.   To the CEC family - thank YOU. Together, we were able to reauthorize the Clean Transportation Program for another $1B for the next 10 years, move forward on advancing charger reliability and tire efficiency standards, supported the opening of the Tesla charging network for all EVs, funded various infrastructure grants to support tribes and low-income/disadvantaged communities to ensure an equitable clean transportation transition + MORE.   Throughout my time at the CEC, I have been fortunate enough to collaborate with so many dedicated and visionary state leaders, federal partners, stakeholders, and community leaders. I look forward to continuing working with you all in the future and appreciate the support you’ve shown the CEC and me. Looking forward to the next adventure! Commissioner at California Energy Commission

⚡ 2024 was a big year for #CleanTransportation in California and at the California Energy Commission. As we dive into the new year, I want to reflect on a few milestones we’ve worked together to achieve in 2024: 🔌 In June, we reached 152,000 public charging stations, of which 24,000 were new stations built in the first 6 months of the year. 🚘 As of September 2024, one in four new passenger vehicles sold in the state is zero emission, equating to about 1,300 new zero emission vehicles per day. 🚚 Sales of new zero-emission medium- and heavy-duty trucks in California in 2023 doubled from the prior year, representing 1 out of every 6 new vehicles. 🤝 Reaching big milestones cannot be done without the support and input from our federal and state partners, community members, and stakeholders who invest their time and energy to make sure we are providing ZEV refueling and charging infrastructure to Californians throughout the state. ✨ 2025 will be an even bigger year with CEC’s recently approved $1.4B plan to expand ZEV infrastructure. We’ll continue to accelerate progress toward the state's clean transportation goals to build a bigger, better, and more reliable EV charging and H2 refueling network.

  • The annual price of a gallon of gas is at a 3-year low, saving Californians billions – thanks in part to state gas price gouging and transparency efforts. The annual average price for gasoline in California is on track to be 20 cents per gallon less than 2023 and 70 cents per gallon lower than 2022 – adjusted for inflation, that’s more than $1 less per gallon. This saved consumers in avoided fuel costs of more than $2 billion compared to 2023 and more than 9 billion compared to 2022. Learn more about the efforts and what is ahead in 2025: bit.ly/4gooNc6

  • 📣 The 2025 Energy Code is official! Today the California Building Standards Commission approved the new efficiency standards that the California Energy Commission (CEC) adopted in August. The Code update is estimated to save $4.8 billion in energy costs, reduce greenhouse gas emissions by about 4 million metric tons, and make homes and buildings more climate-resilient and comfortable. The new standards will go into effect January 1, 2026. Congrats to the CEC’s Efficiency Division staff for their dedicated work to reach this major milestone!
