Universal preventative care for new mothers | Enabling better outcomes with compassion, bringing joy to motherhood

About us

Canopie is a comprehensive, digital platform to prevent and treat maternal health conditions. Our platform identifies at-risk expecting and new mothers and connects them with evidence-based, accessible care right away. For mothers, we offer a comprehensive screening, asynchronous therapeutic programs and education, virtual expert and peer support, and monitoring throughout the perinatal period, all in English and Spanish. For care partners, Canopie cost-effectively extends behavioral health resources and helps triage patients to the right care, integrating with care flows and offering real-time data through a HIPAA and SOC-2 Type-2 compliant platform. Canopie primarily engages expecting populations early in pregnancy in order to evaluate risk and connect them with appropriate resources right away. Canopie reaches thousands of moms across the United States every month, and is also working with new moms through partners in the United Kingdom.

Receiving feedback from our moms brightens our whole team's day. We're so grateful for the opportunity to serve and support caregivers, and getting some insight into how we are helping keeps us going. This cold Friday, we wanted to share some of the feedback from that's been warming our hearts this December. ☃️ We hope you have a safe, warm, and restorative weekend! 💙 🧣 🔥 #maternalmentalhealth #caregiversupport #maternalhealth

  • This time yesterday, we had a very different post written. 🧐 We were going to share with you that 🌻 Giving Thanks is an Evidence-Based Practice 🌻 and offer three ways to boost your mental health through gratitude over the upcoming holiday. But the Canopie moms discussed it, and instead we wanted to say to those who may need to hear it — If you’re juggling caregiving, hectic schedules, sick kids at home, carrying grief, financial stress, or any number of things, this time of year can feel less like a celebration and more like going through the motions. For many, the holidays feel stressful, heavy, or disappointing. If this feels like you, know that we are right there with you. So, this Thanksgiving, can you give yourself permission to: ✨ Say “no” to what doesn’t serve you. ✨ Embrace shortcuts—store-bought pie counts! ✨ Prioritize moments that recharge you, even if it’s just a quiet cup of coffee. Caregivers do not need to pull off a “perfect” holiday. Showing up as the best version of you that you can manage, and trying to let a little light and love in, is more than enough. 🧡 So here’s to getting through the holidays—and finding joy in small moments along the way! #mentalhealth #holidays #gratitude #caregiving

Preventative mental health support is key to reducing preterm births and ensuring healthier outcomes for parents and babies. A UK study that analyzed patient data from more than 2 million pregnancies, funded by the NIHR (National Institute for Health and Care Research), found that mental health challenges raise the risk of preterm birth by 50%. These challenges also increase the likelihood of low birth weight and other complications, which impact both parent and baby. Complications like preterm births can intensify emotional and physical challenges for parents and their children, worsening overall health and continuing the cycle. Mental health and physical health are in complete overlap during pregnancy and postpartum - addressing them in silos will limit our ability to move the needle on either! #WorldPrematurityDay #MaternalMentalHealth #PretermBirths Julia Langham

  • We are thrilled to welcome Erica Kaitz, LCSW, to the Canopie team as a new Clinical Advisor! Erica shares her time between private practice and industry, where she has led clinical teams, creating scalable solutions in health tech and at large health plans. Q&A with Erica: ❔ Why do you love working with and for moms? 💌 I'm deeply passionate about working within and for my community. As a mom, daughter, aunt, and niece, I have a profound appreciation for family in all its forms - the one I was born into, the one I literally grew, and the one I've built. These families, all of which include mothers, are immensely precious to me. That's why working with and for moms feels like actively serving my community: the people who mean the most to me. I'm honored to be able to contribute in this way. ❔ What drew you to Canopie? 🌳 The Mission, the Solution, the Moms! Canopie is driven by a powerful mission: to create an open space where mothers across the globe can be their authentic selves. Motherhood is a profoundly transformative journey, yet one that is too often shrouded in unrealistic expectations and social stigma. Canopie seeks to shatter these barriers, providing a vital lifeline for women navigating the joys and challenges of new parenthood. This is more than just a solution - it's a movement to redefine the maternal experience, elevating the voices that have long been marginalized. Canopie is on a mission to empower mothers, validating their struggles and celebrating their resilience. In doing so, it paves the way for a future where no mom ever has to face parenthood alone. ❔ What’s your best piece of advice for hopeful, expecting, and new parents? 🗺️ Lean into the unpredictability. The path of parenthood is a continual exercise in acceptance - acknowledging that so much of this journey lies beyond our control. ❔ What maternal mental health trends excite you? 🗣️ I love how much more we are simply talking about maternal mental health. As a society, we're becoming more honest about the reality that the arrival of a new child is not always a fairytale of rainbows and butterflies. Rather, it can be a profoundly challenging time marked by immense pain and sorrow for many mothers. Motherhood encompasses a vast spectrum of experiences, and validating the full range - including the difficult emotions - is crucial for promoting wellbeing and fostering true community. ❔ When you need a mental health break, what do you do? 🫂 I mostly gather with my community, whether this be a kid’s soccer game, or a summer dinner; the key is leaning on my people.

  • Warning: This post includes information and a discussion of pregnancy loss. “Nobody asked me about how I was doing. Nobody. The physical pain I was treated for after my D&C was not the pain that stuck with me–the lasting impact was on how I experienced my next pregnancy.” - Canopie mom, October 2024. We know that our healthcare system has countless gaps for new and expecting parents, but in moments of loss, those gaps widen even more. The emotional pain that lingers long after the physical pain fades is often overlooked, leaving families without the support they need. We are facing a crisis of mismanaged pain—one that urgently needs addressing. To support those experiencing loss, Canopie offers a “Pregnancy After Loss: Self-Care & Coping With Grief” provider-led and peer support class designed to help those experiencing a pregnancy after a loss learn about grief and its effects on parents, process and reflect on their emotional state, and learn how to effectively care for themselves during this time. We aim to create a space where parents can understand what the body and mind go through when we grieve, identify and acknowledge possible triggers, set boundaries, honor their feelings, and connect with others. “Too often, after a loss, the focus is more on the circumstances that led to the loss and not the tenderness of what we feel, think, fear, or need in our grief,” Kendall Bassard, LMHC, LCPC, the Canopie expert leading this class, powerfully stated. “It is important to have spaces where grief and loss take center stage and have room to be the narrative, the vulnerability, the process, and the thing that leads that grief to be met with empathy and safety.” We hope last week’s #WorldPregnancyandInfantLossRemembranceDay was a time to come together in support and remembrance with friends, family, and community. If you or someone you know needs additional support, please reach out to us at hello@canopie.health or call 988 for immediate help from the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.
