As the global community confronts the escalating impacts of climate change, much of the focus has been on #mitigation—reducing #greenhousegas emissions to curb future warming. However, for Small Island Developing States (#SIDS), where the intense effects of #climatechange are already being felt, #adaptation is becoming increasingly urgent. Sustainable organic practices offer a dual benefit by enhancing both adaptation and mitigation efforts. 🌱 💡Check out our new blog on the role of organic farming and waste management in SIDS. 📝 ➡https://bit.ly/OFOWMBJJP24 In this blog, CCAP Research Assistant Joshua Joseph Pangelinan discusses how #organic #agriculture and #sustainable #waste management, particularly in SIDS, serves as a bridge between critical adaptation and mitigation approaches. These practices improve soil health, sequester carbon and strengthen resilience to extreme weather, while simultaneously reducing harmful emissions such as #methane through innovative technologies like anaerobic digestion that can also produce #renewable #energy. ♻️🔋 As demonstrated by recent extreme weather events such as Hurricanes Beryl, Helene and Milton, leveraging organic methods across a multitude of sectors can significantly bolster disaster response and recovery, making them a crucial component in building climate resilience and ensuring long-term sustainability for vulnerable island nations. 🌍

Dear network, You’ll soon see me sharing more content than usual (and I hope to get used to it!) because I’ve been selected, from over 50,000 applicants worldwide, as a #YouthDelegate to participate in the #IRENAYouthForum and the 15th Assembly of International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA). This global event brings together ambassadors, ministers, and international agencies to drive policy discussions at the highest level, making it the most significant international agreement in the energy sector. As I often mention on my platforms, I come from a region where opportunities for young people are limited, and resources are scarce. That’s why I’m committed to sharing as much as possible about this international space, so others can learn from it and feel part of this unique experience. I’ll also have the honor of collaborating with inspiring youth from all over the world, and I’m excited to meet them soon to work together on the #EnergyTransition. A huge thank you to the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) Youth Council for selecting and trusting me and to CCAP for allowing me to be part of this incredible international event. As part of the "Accelerating Actions" project with the Climate & Clean Air Coalition, the #RecycleOrganics team visited #Tegucigalpa and #Comayagua last week for working sessions and workshops with local stakeholders, hosted by the Secretaría de Energía, Recursos Naturales, Ambiente y Minas. Together, we focused on sharing knowledge and identifying challenges in implementing #wastemanagement projects in #Honduras. Accelerating Actions supports #Honduras, #Uruguay and #Brazil in advancing their #climate targets, particularly reducing methane emissions to achieve the Global Methane Pledge. The project includes a comprehensive investment plan, public policy tools like #composting guides and strategies to overcome financing barriers for long-term sustainability. 🔑 Key highlights from the trip included visits to: ➡️ Tegucigalpa: A controlled landfill and composting plant handling market waste, manure and pruning waste. ➡️ Comayagua: A sanitary landfill and composting plant that processes organic waste and serves as a community recycling hub. These initiatives are crucial for #methanemitigation and showcase Honduras’ growing commitment to sustainable waste management. Recycle Organics stands committed to supporting further advancements in #sustainable waste practices that help countries in the region achieve their climate goals. Delegates gathered in Baku, Azerbaijan, for this year’s UN Climate Talks amid one of the hottest years on record, as global temperatures surpassed the critical 1.5°C warming threshold. #COP29 saw slow and incremental progress over its two-week duration, hindered by socioeconomic and political challenges. The Conference, billed as the Finance COP, extended into the weekend, with Parties under pressure to reach an agreement on the New Collective Quantified Goal (NCQG)—a new financial target designed to support developing countries in their climate efforts. Developing nations, seeking to bridge the vast climate finance gap, called for a deal in the trillions, not billions. Ultimately, the NCQG, which was announced Sunday, faced criticism for its lack of ambition and clarity. While the target was tripled from $100 billion to $300 billion annually, it still falls well short of addressing the $1.3 trillion funding gap. Developing nations raised concerns about insufficient funding commitments, ongoing debt crises and the continued reliance on loans rather than grants. 💡 As attention turns to next year’s crucial climate talks in Brazil, we highlight the key outcomes of #COP29 in relation to #carbonmarkets, #climatefinance and #methanemitigation. 📝 Read the Good, Bad and Ugly outcomes from #COP29 ➡ https://bit.ly/COP29OGBU24

Transparency is the foundation of the Paris Agreement, and enhancing the transparency of both public and private finance is essential for achieving global climate goals. 🌍💡 As negotiations continue late into the night at the Finance COP, Parties are working toward finalizing the New Collective Quantified Goal (NCQG) on climate finance, which requires trillions of dollars in funding for climate projects. In the midst of these critical discussions in Baku, we’re excited to announce the launch of the Initiative for Climate Action Transparency (ICAT) Climate Finance Transparency Guide—a product of two years of collaboration! 🙌 🔗📈📙 Download the Guide here ➡ https://lnkd.in/e6-GSk_A At the #COP29 launch event, we discussed how data can be leveraged to attract and manage funding for climate action. Representatives from Côte d'Ivoire, Senegal, Belize and Morocco shared their experiences in creating transparency frameworks to mobilize, track and allocate climate finance for maximum impact. As we approach December’s critical deadline to submit Biennial Transparency Reports (BTRs) to the #UNFCCC, Parties are working to strengthen their reporting capacities to improve transparency. This Guide is one of the most comprehensive resources to help countries kickstart their reporting efforts to the #UNFCCC, with a flexible, tailored approach for developing countries facing resource and capacity-building challenges. The Guide offers step-by-step methodological support for policymakers, helping them to create and implement national climate finance transparency frameworks. It focuses on collecting data on financial needs and flows while ensuring alignment with the Paris Agreement’s enhanced transparency framework. This evolving process will empower countries to strengthen future submissions, addressing the unique needs and characteristics of SIDS and LDCs. A heartfelt thank you to all the authors and collaborators who made this Guide possible, including Gauss International Consulting and the greenwerk., for their continued support.
