  • 🌲The Ascent MKE project kicked off the rise of mass timber in Milwaukee and continues to make news. As cities seek greener building solutions, mass timber is a key ingredient in sustainable urban development. WHY MASS TIMBER MATTERS 👏 Carbon Sequestering: Timber buildings store carbon in their structure for the life of the building. For example, an 18-story mass timber building has a negative carbon imprint equal to taking 2,350 cars off the road per year. 👏 Innovative Construction: Prefabricated panels delivered directly to job sites can reduce construction time by approximately 25 percent, saving owners even more time and money. 👏 Structural Strength: Mass timber comprises multiple solid, load-bearing wood panels bound together to create extraordinary strength and stability. Despite being a fraction of the weight of concrete, mass timber meets rigorous safety and performance standards. As Milwaukee continues to push the boundaries of sustainable urban development, it's not just transforming its skyline – it's setting a new standard for cities worldwide. #MassTimber #SustainableConstruction #UrbanDevelopment #GreenBuilding #MassTimberConstruction #Milwaukee #Wisconsin

  • If one thing is clear about food and beverage facility construction, it's this: Operations leaders know it should be more efficient, builders know it should be more practical, and yet often, it's not. Because it can be challenging to integrate facility operations and maintenance insights early in the design and construction process. And there are several reasons why it's so challenging: ❌ Lack of collaboration among stakeholder teams ❌ Limited understanding of day-to-day operational needs ❌ Focus on initial building costs over long-term efficiencies ❌ Overlooking maintenance requirements in the early design phase ❌ Insufficient consideration of worker conditions for safety and wellness ❌ Neglecting energy efficiency and sustainability options ❌ Inadequate planning for future expansion or modifications Many of these challenges center around two blind spots: 👉 Operational insight integration 👉 Long-term maintenance and efficiency planning These are all issues stemming from not having a systematic approach to incorporating operational expertise into facility design and construction. Specifically in a way where: 👉 Facility operator & maintenance team insights are valued & integrated 👉 Design & construction teams understand real-world operational needs 👉 Construction plans account for long-term maintenance 👉 Efficiency and sustainability are prioritized from the start The solution sounds straightforward, but it requires a shift in mindset: If construction teams had an operations-driven approach, integrating maintenance and operational insights from the beginning, it would lead to more efficient, practical, and sustainable food and beverage facilities. Projects that use an operations + maintenance mindset and approach: ✅ Incorporate ample space for routine maintenance ✅ Integrate energy-saving technologies ✅ Prioritize ergonomic workspaces for improved worker comfort ✅ Consider dual power supplies or backup machinery for reliability ✅ Implement waste reduction and sustainability options ✅ Adhere to industry best practices, standards, and regulations The path is clear but not always easy. Join us at Booth 803 (Dec. 4-5) at the 2024 MWFPA Convention or attend a BREAKOUT SESSION on elevating your capital projects and discovering the benefits of Virtual Design + Construction (VDC) for building excellence with an operations and maintenance mindset.
