Critical minerals are essential to the nation’s security, advanced industrial competitiveness, and energy resiliency—and are at the center of new geopolitical rivalries. Hear from experts on this issue TODAY at 11:45 a.m. for a webinar discussion to mark the release of SAFE’s Center for Critical Minerals Strategy’s new report, “Trading Tensions: Navigating Policy Tools for a Diverse Critical Minerals Supply Chain.” The Center for Critical Minerals Strategy’s report offers policymakers a thorough overview of the geopolitical landscape and our current supply chain vulnerabilities and contains a discussion of trade-offs that must be considered in our solutions to these vulnerabilities. • Very happy to announce this collaboration - please see all the details below!

Announcement of Collaboration & Call for Submissions! We are thrilled to announce a partnership between the Georgetown Journal of International Law (GJIL) and the Harvard International Law Journal, generously supported by the Georgetown Center on Inclusive Trade and Development. Together, we're launching a joint effort that merges the realms of trade, technology, and climate initiatives under the scope of international law. As the world grapples with climate change and rapid technological advancement, the Georgetown Journal of International Law and the Harvard International Law Journal collaborate to spotlight the critical role of trade in this equation. We are seeking short-form content that explores the transformative intersection of emerging technologies, climate change, and human rights under the umbrella of international law. We encourage submissions that analyze the international legal frameworks that govern the integration of AI, automation, and climate-focused tech within the trade sector and outline how these innovations can comply with international trade law, as well as reinforce human rights protections globally. Join us in defining the legal contours of a trading system adept at navigating the technological tides of our time! Submissions should not exceed 2,000 words and must be sent by the deadline of March 9th, 2024, at 11:59 PM EST. While submission does not guarantee publication, all pieces will be considered by each journal for inclusion in our special issue. Let's shape the discourse on trade in the age of technology and sustainability together! Submit at: https://lnkd.in/eAUzT5mg #InternationalLaw #ClimateAction #EmergingTechnologies #TradeLaw #HumanRights #CallForSubmissions #LegalScholarship #GJIL #HILJ #CITD

A definite career highlight to moderate a fireside chat with Ambassador Katherine Tai, United States Trade Representative. Almost [XXX] years after our first meeting in Geneva - when I was a junior legal officer at the WTO Appellate Body Secretariat and she was a US litigator at USTR - we met again, this time with her graciously opening our Washington D.C. installment of the Remaking Trade For a Sustainable Future Project, hosted in collaboration with Jennifer Hillman and Katrin Kuhlmann of Georgetown Law's Center on Inclusive Trade and Development. Tai spoke eloquently about her vision of an inclusive, sustainable and equitable US trade policy - a blessing to my soul. It was an auspicious start to a fantastic, all-star, hard-hitting, day-long event, featuring US Senators and staffers, officials of D.C.-based international and regional organizations (like the World Bank, IDB), US entities and think tanks, US businesses, civil society, students, who all came together to share perspectives on our Villars Framework 2.0: available here: https://lnkd.in/eeVkV84e. VF 2.0 continues to inspire a global conversation about how to place trade at the centre of discussions about inclusive, just, equitable and sustainable outcomes in the international economic space. We continue to be awed and humbled by the support of our friends and supporters who see the value of the work we are doing.
