🚨 Rolling blackouts could be coming to the U.S. over the next decade 🚨 A new grid reliability analysis from the North American Electric Reliability Corp. (NERC) warns that large parts of the U.S. could face rolling blackouts due to capacity shortfalls during extreme weather events – estimating that “well over half of North America faces a potential shortage of electricity supplies in the future.” With up to 115 gigawatts of nuclear and fossil fuel plants set to retire and the US continuing to struggle with bringing new power generating resources online – partly due to a broken permitting process – capacity risks across the country are expected to spike. Although transmission development has increased over the past year, states and utility providers will struggle to meet the surging energy demand unless the nation acts to bring more power generation online and to bolster its transmission and grid infrastructure. 📒 Read NERC’s full study: https://lnkd.in/ek_FNyXs #EnergyCrisis #GridReliability #RollingBlackouts #CleanEnergy #EnergyShortfall #ExtremeWeather

Nuclear power is essential for a secure, reliable energy future and national security. To lead on the global stage and counter the influence of China and Russia in advanced nuclear technology, the U.S. must act decisively. This means modernizing permitting and licensing processes to accelerate development while maintaining safety and operational excellence.   The current timelines for nuclear project approval are a significant barrier to progress. Streamlined yet robust permitting reform and standardized reactor designs can reduce delays and allow the U.S. to stay competitive. Nuclear power is not just an energy solution; it's a strategic imperative.   Let’s commit to advancing nuclear power responsibly and quickly—our energy independence and leadership depend on it. 💡⚡   #NuclearPower #PermittingReform #NationalSecurity #EnergyLeadership

The stakes for permitting reform could not be higher. As Admiral Michelle Howard (Ret.) aptly put it, “How can we win a world war in four years, but it takes 11 years to get a transmission line up?”   Ultimately, permitting reform is a strategic investment in America’s future, and “a good solution today is better than a perfect solution two years from now,” said John Szoka of the Conservative Energy Network. A modernized grid:   ◾ lowers costs for consumers ◾ supports surging electricity demand growth, and ◾ fortifies our military against threats ranging from natural disasters to cyberattacks.   EPRA is a pragmatic first step toward achieving the larger goal of energy security and resilience, and as demand for electricity continues to grow, policymakers must act swiftly to pass legislation that lays the groundwork for a safer, stronger, and more secure America.   Listen to SAFE’s latest webinar, The Security Case for Permitting Reform, as policy and military experts discuss the critical steps the U.S. can take to address its broken permitting process and the importance of accomplishing reform before the end of this Congress.   Listen here: https://lnkd.in/gSYYaDYK

As the year draws to a close, there’s a crucial opportunity to pass bipartisan permitting reform that will unlock America’s energy future. Recent talks among congressional leaders, spearheaded by Senators Joe Manchin and John Barrasso, as well as Rep. Bruce Westerman, signal a growing consensus around modernizing the permitting process. By streamlining NEPA provisions, the Energy Permitting Reform Act aims to accelerate the approval of both renewable energy and fossil fuel projects, helping us tackle energy security, climate goals, and economic growth.    The stakes couldn’t be higher. Delay risks ceding progress to partisan gridlock in the next Congress, while action now could deliver a win for both sides of the aisle—and for the American people. As Senator Martin Heinrich noted, “There's something here that will be really meaningful for both sides. So I hope people are willing to all give a little bit and make progress.”    This is a pivotal moment for lawmakers to prioritize solutions over politics. Let’s seize this opportunity to build a cleaner, stronger energy infrastructure for the future.     #EnergyPolicy #PermittingReform #Bipartisanship #CleanEnergy

Energy security is back in focus as Senate Republicans prioritize bold energy reforms in the first 30 days of the new administration. Incoming Senate Majority Leader John Thune emphasized the urgency, while Sen. John Barrasso revealed discussions on reopening oil and gas lease sales—a pivotal step toward enhancing U.S. energy independence. Sen. Dan Sullivan highlighted the importance of pairing these efforts with permitting reform to streamline projects and unify the conference, even as challenges remain. While specifics are still under discussion, Sen. John Hoeven underscored the conference's commitment to advancing impactful energy policies. The GOP's strategy signals a strong commitment to energy production, infrastructure, and economic growth. Will this move redefine the U.S. energy landscape? #EnergyPolicy #USPolitics #EnergySecurity
