Creating a stronger and more equitable community FOR ALL
About us
OUR MISSION to mobilize people, ideas and investments to make this a community where all individuals have equitable opportunity to reach their full potential—no matter place, race or identity. A CATALYST FOR CHANGE As the steward of over $925 million in charitable assets, we connect our fundholders with causes they care about, serving as a catalyst for community change. We also make smart, strategic investments in Central Indiana by granting funds to the area’s most effective not-for-profits. Additionally, we provide leadership by convening strategic partners and investing in important causes and initiatives in both Marion and Hamilton counties. Marion County: family stabilization, economic mobility, criminal justice reform, neighborhood empowerment and placemaking, and dismantling systemic racism. Hamilton County: mental health, family and youth empowerment, and inclusive economic growth. Through these initiatives and various partnerships, we are helping to make Central Indiana a place where all individuals can reach their full potential, no matter place, race or identity. OUR HISTORY When The Indianapolis Foundation was founded in 1916 as one of the first community foundations in the country, its purpose was to improve the quality of life in Marion County by providing help where the needs were the greatest and the benefits were most extensive. Today, it continues that work as one of two affiliates of Central Indiana Community Foundation (CICF). CICF was formed in 1997 when The Indianapolis Foundation partnered with Hamilton County Community Foundation—then known as Legacy Fund. While each foundation still supports its own communities, each one also benefits from the strategic partnerships and resources that come with being part of a regional foundation. Today, CICF stands as Central Indiana’s premier provider of philanthropic services to local philanthropists. And it is primed to make a major impact in Central Indiana in the 21st century and beyond.

One of our most valued assets at CICF is staff. Our team members bring unique skill sets, expertise, and personality. That allows us to more effectively serve fundholders, not-for-profits, and community partners. As a people manager, mastering your leadership style is key to success! Adam Vizard, our Data Systems Director, embraces servant leadership and has some valuable insights to share: 1️⃣ Know Your People: Connect with your team both professionally and personally to enhance their experience and support their work-life balance. 2️⃣ Set Clear Goals: Establish goals together to help your team achieve milestones and showcase everyone’s expertise. 3️⃣ Support Your Team: Build trust by actively listening and keeping everyone in the loop. Better leadership is a continuous journey, and every day offers a new chance to connect and grow.

As CICF reimagines its role as a Central Indiana leader and convener, we’re traveling to other communities to learn how they use a regional approach to address major issues like education, homelessness, and hunger. On this trip, we traveled to San Diego to examine the powerful impact of the San Diego Regional Policy & Innovation Center (PIC). PIC drives regional change by building coalitions, implementing new ideas, securing resources, and designing impactful policies—all in collaboration with top experts and organizations like The Brookings Institution. We were joined by key leaders from Central Indiana; attendees came from CICF (CEO Jennifer Bartenbach, CIO Jeff Bennett, CFO Erin Tanner, VP of Philanthropy Jennifer Turner, CICF Vice Chair/ 2025 CICF Board Chair Jasmin French), The Indianapolis Foundation (Chief Equity and Innovation Officer Michael Twyman), Hamilton County Community Foundation (Senior Community Leadership Officer Anita Gonzalez Rogers), Hendricks County Community Foundation (VP of Programs Eric Hessel (He/Him/His), Naptown Enterprises (Public Policy Consultant Mackenzie Higgins) and Next Practice Partners (Founder and CEO Neelay Bhatt).
