Bringing the World to Chicago and Chicago to the World.

About us

Chicago Sister Cities International (CSCI), a division of World Business Chicago (WBC), provides leadership to develop, manage, and coordinate comprehensive programs and projects with Chicago’s 28 sister cities in the areas of economic development, tourism, immigration, education, and cultural enrichment, expanding Chicago’s global reach for the benefit of the City of Chicago, its residents and businesses. Since 1960, Chicago Sister Cities International has been at the forefront of developing the international partnerships and networks that have cemented Chicago’s status as a major global city. The people-to-people diplomacy model—originally championed by President Dwight D. Eisenhower—has served as the foundation that has allowed CSCI to bring the world to Chicago and Chicago to the world. Chicago’s 28 sister cities include: Accra, Ghana (1989); Amman, Jordan (2004); Athens, Greece (1997); Belgrade, Serbia (2005); Birmingham, United Kingdom (1993); Bogota, Colombia (2009); Busan, Republic of Korea (2007); Casablanca, Morocco (1982); Delhi, India (2001); Durban, South Africa (1997); Galway, Ireland (1997); Gothenburg, Sweden (1987); Hamburg, Germany (1994); Kyiv, Ukraine (1991); Lahore, Pakistan (2007); Lucerne, Switzerland (1998); Mexico City, Mexico (1991); Milan, Italy (1973); Moscow, Russia (SUSPENDED - 1997); Osaka, Japan (1973); Paris, France (1996); Petach Tikva, Israel (1994); Prague, Czech Republic (1990); Shanghai, China (1985); Shenyang, China (1985); Sydney (2019); Toronto, Canada (1991); Vilnius, Lithuania (1993); and Warsaw, Poland (1960).

  • On Sunday, February 2nd, members of the Milan Committee of CSCI and many members of the Italian-American community gathered to celebrate Carnevale di Venezia, hosted by the Sons and Daughters of Italy in America. Milan Committee member Elio Bartolotta was recognized for his outstanding contributions to the community and his commitment to his Italian heritage. We were also joined by Consul General of Italy in Chicago, Mario Bartoli, who shared how much this event reminded him of the celebrations in Venice. This event brought a taste of Italy to Chicagoland, and featured amazing costumes, food and performances. 🇮🇹 🎭 The program book shared the following about the history of Carnevale: "Carnevale is celebrated annually beginning 58 days before Easter. Carnevale, 'goodbye to meat', ends on Martedi Grasso or Fat Tuesday. On Carnevale, "ogni scherzo vale" or every trick counts. The Venetian tradition is most famous for its masks and elaborate costumes. The form of each mask has a special meaning." Photos 1-5 taken by: David Jacobson
