We have signal acquisition! 🛰️ Last night, the United States Space Force successfully launched the first-ever Rapid Response Trailblazer mission for GPS III SV-07 from Space Launch Complex 40 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station! This mission, executed in less than 5 months (compared to the usual 24-month timeline) delivers next-gen technology to incorporate advanced signal protection and increase our GPS constellation to 31 satellites and 7 in reserve. 🧠 Knowledge Nuggets: #GPS is a constellation of orbiting satellites that provides position, navigation, and timing data to 6 billion military and civilian daily users! GPS satellites orbit the earth every 12 hours, emitting continuous navigation 24/7/365. So, next time you ask Siri for directions, remember little ole SLD 45 put them all on orbit. 🤓 👉 More info HERE: https://bit.ly/3BKYQnQ 2024 Launch Count: 8️⃣ 9️⃣

Sierra Space contributed key components to the Europa Clipper spacecraft, which is headed to Jupiter's moon Europa.   Delivered items include two Solar Array Drive Actuators (SADAs), Thermal Louvers, and a cover system for the MASPEX instrument. The SADAs, made in Durham, North Carolina, rotate the large solar arrays (46.5 feet by 13.5 feet) to face the sun and transmit power and signals. The MASPEX cover system and Thermal Louvers, both made in Louisville, Colorado, manage gas collection and regulate the spacecraft’s temperature.   Learn more: https://lnkd.in/e3EKKWqn Photo credit: NASA

“There is still so much that we don’t know – and I actually think that’s kind of cool.” Meet Sarah Elizabeth McCandless, an interplanetary navigator on the Europa Clipper mission team. Her role ensures the spacecraft makes it to Jupiter and that it can safely complete its observations of Europa. Hear how her passion for exploration – from piloting planes to participating a 45-day simulated Mars mission – shaped her career at NASA ⬇️

Thanks to Rep. Dale Strong’s support for U.S. commercial space, we welcome the SPACEPORT Act, which will provide federal funding for spaceport infrastructure projects, including Huntsville International Spaceport. This legislation will enhance spaceport capabilities, directly benefiting the landing and operation of our Dream Chaser spaceplane. By strengthening spaceport infrastructure, we are paving the way for the future of commercial space transportation and its potential to revolutionize humanity's access to space.
