On November 6 and 7, Fashion for Good analyst Jyotsna Gopinath visited alumnae Circ® and Syre. During both visits, Jyotsna had the chance to meet team members, tour the pilot plants, and hear about each company’s scaling plans. Her key takeaways from the visit: ✅ Innovations in the textile-to-textile recycling space are constantly improving, requiring real-time troubleshooting and implementing of unique solutions to address the complexity of valorising textile waste feedstock. ✅ Strategic partnerships to secure waste feedstock as well as to accelerate product development with key partners throughout the supply chain are necessary for unlocking implementation and scale. ✅ The roadmap to scale is unique for each textile recycling innovator, however, collaborative action across the industry can allow innovations in this space to move forward together to create lasting change. It was a great time visiting our alumni recyclers and learning from their R&D teams. Thank you to Matthew Parrott & Chris Luft from Syre and Taylor Greene and Andrew Talarico from Circ® for the warm welcome and insightful visit. It was a pleasure to see you all in person, and we look forward to the next visit! Director of Corporate Development at Circ | Bringing circularity in fashion to market | Green Biz 30 Under 30 | Georgia Tech 40 Under 40
Last week, Raz Godelnik invited me to speak about my career building #sustainable #materials for the fashion industry for his class Ethics and Economics of Sustainable Design at Parsons School of Design - The New School. We discussed the challenges that innovators in this space face, as well as collaboration needed for the development and incorporation of new materials in fashion value chains. I was thrilled to see the interest in the space and the astute observations and innovative ideas that the students were coming up with. In a world where we are bogged down with systemic challenges preventing adoption of new materials, I was filled with hope and inspiration for the next generation of students to help bring on the change we need in this industry. Kudos to Raz Godelnik for teaching this class and helping shed light on the problems and grow interest in this field right at the university level.

Tuesday night, Canopy and the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) co-hosted an exclusive Jeffersonian Dinner to spark a bold vision for fashion: one that values forests, champions circularity and drives industry-wide transformation. 🌎🌲✨ Gathered around the table, Canopy, and leading designers explored how the fashion industry at large must shift away from a ‘take, make, waste’ model toward a circular approach — embedding sustainability into every fiber and safeguarding the world’s vital forests. Key Outcomes of the Evening: 🤝 The Power of Partnership Canopy's work with CFDA is a powerful example of how collective pull-through and pre-competitive collaboration can overcome market challenges and unlock access to alternative fibers for designers, both big and small. By linking designers with game-changing innovators like Circ®, Canopy is helping to make circular material sourcing the new fashion norm. 🏆 Long-Term Vision with CFDA Our shared vision with CFDA is focused on advancing Next Gen fibers globally, leveraging top designers' prestige to elevate sustainability within the fashion industry. By integrating cutting-edge innovation into high fashion, we aim to shift the narrative, positioning sustainability as a fundamental, long-term pillar of the industry, not just suitable for one-off collections or a fleeting trend, but a key driver of industry transformation and profitability. 🎁 Collaborative Innovation in Action As a gesture of appreciation, guests received an exclusive, forest-inspired finch bird scarf — a product of an innovative supply chain collaboration. Its journey to fruition began with US-based textile-to-textile recycling innovator, Circ® and Hot Button Green Shirt producer Acelon Chemicals & Fiber Corporation (Acegreen) providing fiber derived from 40% recycled textile waste from polycotton blended fabrics to Italian manufacturer TESSILGODI-S.P.A., who crafted it into a luxurious, silk-like material known as Circ Lyocell. Resonance Companies, the first AI-powered operating system for on-demand, waste-free fashion production at scale, then transformed this material into the finished product scarf accessory. This unique, first-of-its-kind piece beautifully showcases what’s possible when Next Gen materials meet revolutionary manufacturing. Reflecting on last week’s Textile Exchange Conference in Pasadena, I am energized by the collaborative spirit among attendees and the impressive advancements in material innovation. It was inspiring to see such a diverse array of experts—ranging from farmers to material scientists and brand strategists—come together to discuss solutions in a genuinely collaborative environment. Standing by Circ®'s changemaker photo wall, where I was honored to be featured alongside Dana Davis and Mara Hoffman’s beautiful dress and Emily Long, I felt a profound sense of community among us dedicated to making actionable change, one practical step at a time. Connecting with many new faces and reuniting with colleagues from past projects was a highlight of the conference. I especially enjoyed catching up with Tricia Carey, reminiscing about our 2015 collaboration with Lenzing Group and suppliers in Portugal to create a Supplex-like fabric made from 85% Tencel Lyocell. Witnessing the industry’s evolution, particularly in terms of material advancements, made this gathering particularly meaningful. Another standout moment was the Circulose session with Lundmark Magnus, where we discussed the promising future of Circulose alongside Birla Cellulose, Canopy, and others. So, what were my key takeaways? We are experiencing a shift from isolated projects to collaborative initiatives that scale material innovations, meeting both performance and sustainability standards. Industry leaders are investing in upstream solutions to achieve their material goals. The level of strategic focus and pre-competitive collaboration I witnessed inspires optimism for the future of our industry. After the conference, I carry renewed energy, excitement, and determination, and I bring with me Andrew Winston’s thought-provoking question: "Is the world better because your company is in it?" Thank you, Textile Exchange, for organizing such a powerful gathering. Let’s hold on to this momentum and integrate it into our daily work! #textileexchange #sustainability #materialinnovation #collaboration

Last week the Fashion for Good Team was on the ground in California.☀️ Reformation was our first stop. A big shout out to the team (Kathleen Talbot & Carrie Freiman Parry) for hosting not just us, but many of our partners for a session where we dug into collective priorities for 2025, the tradeoffs between Decarbonisation/Circularity and toured Ref’s LA factory. From there, the team headed over to Pasadena for Textile Exchange, where our Innovation Director - Scaling, Priyanka Khanna led a break-out session on "The Realities and Returns of Textile Innovation” unpacking the roles of both innovators and incumbents to commercialise textile-to-textile recycling with Lundmark Magnus from Circulose, Kathleen Rademan from Circ®, Camilla Skjønning Jørgensen from Syre, Carolina Sister Cohn from Eastman, and Claire Mattelet from Indorama Ventures. We were thrilled to be the co-conspirators with Circ® and Canopy and launch the ‘Circ®’ Fiber Club, designed to consolidate demand driving supply chain efficiency and attractive economics. Lundmark Magnus & Dr Anna Sammarco shared about Circulose’s new strategy, reactivating the plant, feedstock strategies and price trajectories. Last but not least, we gave a sneak peek of the World of Waste— our latest open-source initiative aggregating global waste data from leading projects and organisations. Additionally, very grateful to Ambercycle for not just sponsoring this event but also hosting us at their offices and giving us a sneak peek of their technology. Throughout the various discussions, new themes emerged and inspiring lessons were shared: ✨The power of partnership is reshaping our industry: while individual commitments matter, we're seeing unprecedented momentum in collective action—scaling sustainable solutions faster than ever. This is exactly the system-change approach we champion. ✨ A wave of groundbreaking textile-to-textile recycling partnerships emerged at Textile Exchange! From Circ® & Birla Cellulose to Ambercycle & Arc'teryx Equipment, leading innovators are joining forces with global brands and suppliers. These collaborations signal a clear shift: circular solutions are moving from pilot to commercial scale, and T2T recycling is THE space to watch! ✨ The future of fashion is materialising before our eyes!
