City of Newberg is the governing authority of Newberg, Oregon.

About us

The City of Newberg is the governing authority of Newberg, a town with a population of 23,306 (2016) located in the beautiful Chehalem Valley (Valley of the Flowers) on the Willamette River, about 25 miles southwest of Portland, Oregon. The City of Newberg provides police, street maintenance, library, public improvements, planning and zoning, water and sewage treatment services. The City enjoys a highly diverse economic base. Many of the City’s “home-grown” businesses have become leaders within their respective industries, such as dental equipment, electronics and manufacturing. George Fox University, offering bachelor’s degrees in more than 40 majors, adult degree programs, and 12 master’s and doctoral degrees; a branch of Portland Community College; and Providence Newberg Medical Center are located in the City. Newberg is conveniently located near the many assets of the Portland metropolitan area, the community also retains a distinct physical separation from the metro region, buffered by a greenbelt of rural forests, rolling hills and agricultural lands. The community is on the threshold of some major changes. Construction of the second phase of the Newberg-Dundee Bypass, a major state highway project is underway. This project has been 30 years in the planning and will result in truck traffic being taken out of the historic downtown Newberg. With this will come the continuing renaissance of the downtown area. The City recently adopted the new Downtown Improvement Plan for re-vitalization of the downtown area. The Newberg 2030 (Urban Growth Boundary expansion) Plan along with an update to the Riverfront Master plan is also in the planning stages.

  • This is a courtesy post on behalf of our partners at the Chehalem Parks and Recreation District (CPRD): Chehalem Park and Recreation District (CPRD) is accepting applications for the superintendent position, which is the highest-level administrative staff position in the agency. Please see documents on the CPRD website at https://lnkd.in/gS6M4w37 for relevant details and materials, including job description, posting announcement, instructions on how to apply, and the CPRD employment application.    Special Districts Association of Oregon is conducting what the Board of Directors has characterized as a nationwide search effort. All applications must be submitted directly to SDAO, as detailed in the online application materials.   The need to hire a new superintendent comes with the retirement of longtime Superintendent Don Clements, who held the position for approximately four decades.

  • Nearly 8 months ago, on MLK Jr. Day, City Hall staff were peacefully enjoying a day of rest at home when the unthinkable happened. A waterline in our fire suppression system on the 2nd floor of City Hall burst, showering the entire area with gallons of water. This trickled down to the ground floor, and then even into the basement, causing huge damage and loss of equipment. 😥 It's been a long road to recovery, from 3 months of insurance negotiations to sourcing contractors for the rebuild. Thankfully we're on track with repairs and hope to be back to resuming service at City Hall by mid-November! 🙌🎉 In the meantime, you can still find much of our City Hall staff within reach. Our Utility Billing team is stationed at the Newberg Public Safety Building at 401 E Third Street, while our Community Development Staff are handling all your permitting, engineering, and planning needs at the Wastewater Treatment Plant Admin building over at 2301 NE Wynooski Rd. Find more details on temporary relocation and current repair updates over on our website! https://bit.ly/3vMPvZS Questions? Email publicaffairs@newbergoregon.gov
