The work that BridgeUSA is doing on college campuses is incredibly important. Thank you Manu Meel for sharing this update about the Israel-Palestine conversation hosted at Columbia University.
They said it couldn’t be done at Columbia University. But our Columbia student chapter leaders thought better. Yesterday night, we had one of the most constructive conversations I’ve seen about the Israel-Palestine conflict at Columbia University. The students showed that the future is more conversations, not less. We ran out of chairs because there was more demand than we could handle. The problem is not division. The problem is a culture of fear. Here’s the hope- dialogue is now the counterculture and the demand is through the roof 🚀 Awesome as always to partner with the College Debates & Discourse Alliance!

“What image comes to mind when you think of politics?” I was honored to give a TEDx talk this weekend, and my focus was on this question. What happens if we redraw the picture in our minds about what is possible, who we are, and what can change? What can our leaders accomplish once we build the necessary supports? It was an incredible experience and not only did I get to share something I’m passionate about, but I learned so much from the other brilliant speakers about everything from AI to medicine to self defense. The videos will all be out in the next two months, and I can’t wait to share them all with you. Thank you TEDxJacksonville for the opportunity!

This article put into words the many hopes and sentiments I share, spoken from the voices of leaders and organizations I admire greatly. I am grateful for the existing partnership, advice, and leadership of Manu Meel, Kristin J. Hansen, and Andrew Hanauer to strengthen our efforts at AmeriCorps. The role service plays in uniting all Americans is also informed by the research, data, tools and writings of Philanthropy for Active Civic Engagement (PACE), Othering & Belonging Institute at UC Berkeley, Civic Health Project to name a few. Citizen University's Eric Liu, former Board Member for AmeriCorps noted, "We have to prioritize what it means to build trust and belonging and commitment in the places where we live.” Trust building, relationships, place-based solutions have always been at the heart of AmeriCorps. With ongoing support, resource sharing, and coordinated investments between our #philanthropy, #bridging and #nationalservice partners, AmeriCorps members and volunteers - placed in nearly 40,000 communities across the United States - can skillfully unite Americans through service. I would love the opportunity to strategize with organizations passionate about bridging and the infinite ways national service can be a conduit for healing and repairing in a post-election era.
We may not know how this election will end or how long it’ll take to count the votes. But while we wait, let’s remember that the future of our democracy doesn’t rely on just one election—it depends on us. When this season ends, let’s carry forward respect, curiosity, and hope to mend the frayed threads of our civic life.
