Mobilizing the voice of the workforce to urge companies to go “all in” on climate change

About us

Our mission is to mobilize the voice of the workforce to urge companies to go “all in” on climate, both in business practices and policy advocacy. Unleashing the muscle of the corporate sector will be a climate game changer, tipping the balance on policy battles that are now stacked in favor of polluting industries. Achieving ambitious carbon reduction goals (50% by 2030 and zero by 2050) will take broad and sweeping action. These goals require urgent public policy changes at the local, state and federal levels. A mobilized workforce will make sure that companies step up and advocate.

Urge 3M, Amazon, Apple, Cisco, The Coca-Cola Company, Ford Motor Company, Google, Johnson & Johnson, Meta, Microsoft, PepsiCo, Pfizer, Qualcomm, Salesforce, and Visa to step up their climate leadership. It’s time to call on these companies to use their influence to catalyze meaningful climate policy action and live up to their green reputations. Why are these 15 companies undermining their sustainability commitments by lobbying against climate policy? Leadership means no longer lobbying against climate policies via your trade associations. These companies must close the gap between their public support of climate policy while simultaneously funding efforts that oppose it. It’s time they stop letting their trade associations such as the Business Roundtable and U.S. Chamber of Commerce speak for them on climate. #GuiltByTradeAssociation #LeadOnClimatePolicy

In the past 60 years, carbon dioxide in the atmosphere has increased 100 times faster than it did at the end of the last ice age. Hertz Fellow Bill Weihl founded ClimateVoice to help educate employees and executives at large tech companies about how and why they—and their companies—should speak out about climate policies. Read about the importance of his advocacy and how he’s creatively tackling a different kind of uncharted exponential growth to solve future climate challenges before they arise: https://lnkd.in/eW8rf_P2 #ClimatePolicy #Tech

Here's an EASY saving-the-world hack that most people have no idea about! It's very likely that the company you work at has money they HAVE to spend before the calendar year. As in, they've already budgeted for this. They're not trying to save this money. It doesn't roll over. You use it or lose it. BILLIONS of dollars that could support critical social and environmental justice work (and more!) get lost every year. So, how do YOU stop that from happening? Here's a list from easiest to hardest. 🤑 Check if your employer has donation matching available. You may find that they'll match up to $30,000 a year! If you're not personally planning on making a 30 -> $60,000 donation, get your friends to pitch in so you can donate through your company. (And/or reach to me) 💎 Check if your employer GIVES money for you to donate to a cause. Many offer "small" amounts of money like $100-$500 for employees to give! These can be LIFE-SAVING donations for non-profits! ⏳ Reach out to your social impact / sustainability / HR person to ask about these types of funds: employee engagement, connectivity, ERG, DEI, sustainability, community impact, localization, etc. This person is probably scrambling to find a good cause to donate to by the end of the calendar year, especially if it's the same as your fiscal year. Sometimes these are THOUSANDS of dollars! 📣 Check what you've got in your professional development budget. Some nonprofits have leadership trainings you can take or a plethora of other offerings you can engage with. It's quite common for companies to give $500-$2000 to cover professional development. Use it or lose it! You digging around in your portal/emailing someone/taking 10 mins of your time could truly make SUCH a huge difference! Aaaand if you want my thoughts on where to donate, here are my top 5 suggestions. Links are in the comments. Tag your fave nonprofit! 💚 Soapbox Project obviously! If you've been saying "community is more important now than ever" we would love for you to 👏 help👏 us 👏 fund👏 it. We're building joyful community spaces for climate action. 💚 Earth Guardians who is equipping a new generation of climate justice leaders. This revolutionary non-profit is led by youth for youth. You can even donate to support specific programs like their Indigenous Youth Initiative and more 💚 ClimateVoice which supports a coalition of employees taking climate action. When employees speak, companies listen! (This could be a good one to figure out how you can plug in with your PD/learning budget!) 💚 Your local Native land trust or Indigenous justice org. Sogorea Te Land Trust is an amazing one in the SF Bay Area. Real Rent Duwamish is one of our faves in Seattle. Look up whose land you're on and go from there 💚 Yellowhammer Fund to support reproductive care in this critical time. We don't know what will happen with the change in administration in January. We've got to keep people safe however we can Happy giving!

📣 🚨 InfluenceMap has launched the COP29 Corporate Climate Advocacy Landscape Assessment as part of its COP29 Corporate Accountability Platform. This new resource identifies the companies represented at COP29 by cross-referencing the UNFCCC-disclosed list of registered attendees against InfluenceMap’s database on corporate lobbying. ⚔ This year’s findings reflect a pitched battle between companies in the fossil fuel value chain that oppose science-aligned policy action, and a growing list of highly positive, strategically engaged companies, or ‘climate policy leaders’ who are increasingly active. Key Findings:  ❌ Only 17% of the companies attending COP29 have science-aligned climate policy advocacy positions (as defined by the IPCC 1.5C pathways).  ❌ These companies are matched by a further 21% of companies in attendance that are actively pushing for policy pathways likely to lock-in warming scenarios well in excess of the internationally agreed targets set out by the 2015 Paris Agreement.   ❌ 1/3 of industry associations attending COP29 covered by the LobbyMap database oppose science-aligned climate policy. The analysis suggests that although the proportion of companies of attending COP that demonstrate science-aligned policy engagement has almost doubled (from below 10% of corporate representatives in 2023 to almost 20% in 2024) a powerful minority of very active and influential companies and industry associations from the fossil fuel value chain are well represented at proceedings again this year. These entities are likely to be using their access to oppose progress on climate from within the confines of the event. 🛑 Oppositional companies with more than 10 COP29 delegates include: ExxonMobil, Gazprom, Petrobras and Lukoil.  🛑 Other negative companies with smaller delegations at COP29 include: Chevron, Eni, BMW, JBS, JFE Steel, Nippon Steel Corporation and Toyota. ❇ Companies that demonstrate science-aligned climate policy engagement and have more than 10 COP29 delegates include: Alphabet, SAP, Schneider Electric and SSE.  ❇ Other positive companies with smaller delegations at COP29 include: Unilever, Trane Technologies, Acciona, Vestas, Microsoft and Iberdrola. 🚩 The list of industry association COP29 attendees includes some of the most influential and negative entities covered by the InfluenceMap database, including The US Chamber of Commerce, the American Petroleum Institute, The Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers, the Japan Iron and Steel Federation (JISF), and the Federation of German Industries (BDI).
