🌍📊 Today, we’re excited to release our annual report on funding trends in climate change mitigation philanthropy. In this year’s report, we find that philanthropic funding for climate mitigation increased significantly in 2023, outpacing the growth in overall global philanthropic giving for the first time since 2020. However, sustained climate progress will require much more action and funding. This year’s report covers foundation funding data from 2019 to 2023. Key findings include: 🔹 Annual foundation funding for climate mitigation nearly tripled between 2019 and 2023. 🔹 Emerging areas include sustainable finance (which was the fastest-growing enabling strategy for climate mitigation funding) and efforts to reduce emissions from super pollutants like methane (which was the fastest-growing sector). 🔹 Low-to-middle-income countries receive much lower levels of flexible or core funding for climate mitigation. Ultimately, this report provides insights on the evolution of climate philanthropy, emerging trends, and ways to support bold climate action. 💡 Let’s make 2025 the year we step up climate ambition together. 📖 Read the full report: https://lnkd.in/gQnn5tT4 #ClimateAction #Philanthropy #ClimateChange #FundingTrends2024

Climate change mitigation interventions, when carefully designed, can be an important pathway to improving public health. We’ve seen some evidence of this in high-income countries, including through our partnership with the Pathfinder Initiative, but we know far less about how mitigation strategies could improve health in other parts of the world. That’s why the Wellcome Trust is now planning to fund new research that explores the potential effects on human health of greenhouse gas mitigation strategies in low and middle-income countries. Are you: ✅ located in a low- or middle-income country ✅ part of a diverse team with academic and non-academic stakeholders ✅ looking to research the health effects of climate mitigation? If you answered yes to all of the above, this funding opportunity could be for you. Learn more and apply ⤵️ https://lnkd.in/ebqf9Qng

🌍 The US has announced its updated #NDC: a 61-66% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2035 relative to 2005 levels, setting a trajectory toward net zero by 2050. Achieving this target would build on the current momentum we’re seeing in the clean energy transition and with existing investments, together with a vital role for local, state, and Tribal governments, as well as businesses, communities, and academia. It is an opportunity to drive climate solutions that can help to build strong economies and benefit households. With nations preparing to submit updated national climate plans (NDCs) by #COP30 in Brazil at the end of 2025, this is a pivotal moment for global climate ambition. Each country’s contribution, including leadership from major emitters like the US, will shape our collective ability to limit warming to well under 2°C and ideally closer to 1.5°C. The time to act is now. Every fraction of a degree matters. Let’s ensure this decisive decade of #ClimateAction delivers for people and the planet. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gSMGfyvG
