Job opening at the Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment - University of Oxford! Applications are now open for the role of Researcher – State of Carbon Dioxide Removal. This is an exciting opportunity to be at the heart of analysis for the ground-breaking State of Carbon Dioxide Removal (SoCDR) initiative as it enters into a new phase. The SoCDR team is seeking motivated and skilled researchers to support the development of the SoCDR reports. Based at the University of Oxford, you will be part of an international collaboration providing reliable, independent and scientific data for tracking and assessing the development of CDR around the world. You will have particular responsibility for maintaining and developing the SoCDR database of CDR deployment. Additionally, you will advance your own research area and contribute ideas for new research projects. This role is fixed-term for 26 months, with the possibility of extension. Dr Steve Smith, Executive Director of CO2RE, and Prof Colin Snape, who leads The Biochar Demonstrator, recently wrote to the Rt Hon Steve Reed OBE MP (Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs) and the Rt Hon Ed Miliband, Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, about the regulatory gaps that hinder the growth of biochar as a method of greenhouse gas removal in the UK. Cyanoskin is developing an innovative 'living paint' designed to transform buildings into #carbon dioxide-absorbing structures. The team’s carbon capture tech utilises an algae based-coating which reduces #emissions and addresses urban pollution. If Cyanoskin coated buildings globally, it could absorb up to 85% of global emissions. "The Greenhouse has truly supported us, not only financially, giving us our first major grant that enabled us to focus on the product, and providing sponsored offices, but through a genuinely hands-on approach to mentoring and providing sessions with extremely practical advice," says Emma Money, its Co-founder and CEO. Dr Catherine Price and Dr Tom Bott at The Biochar Demonstrator recently led an Advancing Capacity for Climate and Environment Social Science (ACCESS) project to develop a framework on "Including the More-than-Human World in Responsible Research and Innovation". Responsible research and innovation, or RRI, is about considering science and technological developments in a wider context. The aim of the project was to develop a research framework that includes plants, animals, water, soils, etc. in RRI alongside humans and the impact on them. The researchers used biochar as a case study to test the suitability of the framework.
