This week after Thanksgiving, let’s take a moment to reflect on the power of giving. At CBI, we’re working to turn Little Eyes into Big Dreams through the gift of sight. In this short message, our Executive Director, Reena Chandra, shares why your support matters. Together, we can help children see clearly, learn fully, and dream without limits. About us
Combat Blindness International (CBI) eliminates preventable blindness worldwide by providing sustainable, equitable solutions for sight through partnerships and innovation. After spending years traveling throughout India, Thailand, Indonesia, and Kenya, Dr. Suresh Chandra realized many of the problems with blindness in these countries could be cured with a simple 20-minute cataract surgery at a cost of only $25.

Evan, a bright young boy from Madison, had his life changed by a routine eye exam conducted by Combat Blindness International's MMSD Volunteer Screeners. In 4K, Evan was diagnosed with amblyopia, commonly known as lazy eye—a condition that could have gone unnoticed and untreated. With early intervention, Evan began an eye patching program, along with wearing his stylish glasses full-time. Thanks to the dedicated volunteers who caught his condition early, Evan’s journey to better vision began before the problem could worsen. Today, Evan is a thriving 4th grader who loves his glasses and wears them proudly. His mom, Heather, shares, “His eyesight is stabilized, and he’s doing really well! We’re so thankful you were able to catch it early. He never takes his glasses off!” This heartwarming story is a powerful reminder that early detection and intervention can change lives. Thanks to supporters like you, children like Evan can continue to learn, grow, and see their world with clarity. Little Eyes, Big Dreams is a vision every child deserves. As we continue to focus on pediatric eye care, we ask you to help us give the gift of sight to more children. Will you make a difference today? Your donation can ensure that more children like Evan receive the vision care they need to succeed. Bhavesh Maliwad, a 15-year-old boy, had been struggling in silence for a year, his world dimming day by day. His left eye clouded over, and simple tasks like reading and playing with friends became increasingly difficult. As his vision faded, so did his confidence and joy. When Bhavesh visited Shree Jalaram Surgical Hospital, they discovered a posterior subcapsular cataract in his left eye, a condition rare for someone so young. His family, deeply worried, could not afford the surgery he desperately needed. But thanks to the generosity of our donors, Bhavesh's story took a brighter turn. He underwent a life-changing surgery—Phacoemulsification—and within days, his world was filled with light again. Bhavesh was overjoyed to regain his sight, and his future is now full of hope and potential. Bhavesh’s transformation is a reminder of how important pediatric eye care is. Every child deserves to see their future clearly: Little Eyes, Big Dreams. Let’s ensure no child’s future is lost to preventable blindness. Meet Samuel Njuguna, a 60-year-old tea farmer from Kangema Muranga whose life changed thanks to restored vision. Samuel first noticed vision issues when he couldn’t read messages on his phone, and soon, he struggled to pick tea leaves—an essential part of his daily life. Thanks to his grandchild, who heard about a Lions Sightfirst Eye Camp at school, Samuel learned he could receive help. After a successful operation on his right eye, Samuel’s world is brighter, and he’s looking forward to surgery on his left eye after recovery. Stories like Samuel’s remind us just how essential education and awareness for eye screenings are in reaching those who need it most. Today, we celebrate Samuel’s resilience and the life-changing impact of restored sight. #InternationalMensDay #LittleEyesBigDreams #YearEndGiving #HopeInSight #CombatBlindnessInternational #40YearsOfVision #CommunityImpact #CreateARipple #VisionForAll #PreventableBlindness #EyecareForAll #CommunityImpact Reena Chandra
