  • ⭐Knowledge Exchange: Converge-Hosted Panel on Rural/Remote MH⭐ On Feb. 10, we hosted a Zoom panel with experts from Nova Scotia, Alberta, and Iqaluit to explore the challenges and opportunities in delivering mental health care to rural and remote communities. Here are some of the important insights shared : Key Barriers: 🔹 Limited Services: Long-distance travel is often required for care. 🔹 Transportation Costs: Expenses and time constraints hinder access. 🔹 Stigma & Anonymity: Fear of judgment discourages help-seeking. 🔹 Economic Hardships: Many cannot afford necessary care. 🔹 Connectivity Gaps: Poor internet limits virtual service options. 🔹 Cultural & Linguistic Barriers: Services often fail to meet diverse needs. Pathways to Solutions: 🔹 Technology: Expanding telehealth and digital mental health tools. 🔹 Community-Based Programs: Creating local initiatives tailored to residents' needs. 🔹 Collaboration Strengthening partnerships among key stakeholders. 🔹 Tailored Interventions: Adapting care models to cultural and geographic realities. 🔹 Advocacy & Awareness: Championing increased resources and policy changes. This discussion reinforced the urgency of community-driven, innovative approaches to mental health care in rural and remote settings. To reach out with questions, or to connect with panelists directly, contact Laurie at lleier@convergementalhealth.org. 🚀 Converge is committed to fostering dialogue and driving advocacy to improve mental health services through transparent knowledge sharing. Save the date (or just register now at the link in our bio) for Rooted in Belonging: Placemaking through Storytelling. We’re excited to share the date of our in person Community Conversation & Film Festival where we’ll amplify the stories, dreams, and wisdom of young people (18-30) who have grown up with the stigma of a parent’s substance use, while we re-image how we create belonging for families without stigma. When we listen, when we speak, when we imagine new ways forward, we change what’s possible.🌱🌱 Free admission (and all donations go towards the storytellers at our event and future programming). Light snacks and beverages provided. Thanks to the @cityofcalgary for funding our winter cohort of our PEM program and this opportunity to share stories in and with community and to Michael Lang, PhD digital stories who is equipping our group with the knowledge and tools to transform our stories into a digital format that will be shared at the event. Calling all DfG Canada volunteers -- there is an opportunity to work together on a National DataThon this year! Well, specifically, right about now, things are really getting going, and in April, things will be LIT! FIRE! AWESOME! (choose your own adjective adventure, dear multi-generational supporters). Reach out to your local #dataforgood Chapter to find out more and to get involved:

📢 New Research: Only 6.9% of People Worldwide Receive Effective Mental Health Treatment A global study from The University of British Columbia and Harvard University reveals that most people with mental health or substance use disorders don’t receive evidence-based care due to awareness gaps and systemic barriers. The upcoming Converge-hosted and Data for Good-led Datathon aims to tackle these challenges by helping mental health organizations analyze their own data, uncover service gaps, and enhance care delivery. By mining data and collecting insights, we can drive better policy, funding decisions, and interventions, ensuring that more people receive effective mental health support. Learn more about the upcoming Converge- Data for Good Datathon: https://lnkd.in/gGYp6Wta **At this time, we are not accepting any new organizational data sets, but stay tuned for other ways to participate.** For more information on the study itself: https://lnkd.in/gUPrJPUS #MentalHealth #DataForGood #HealthcareInnovation #Policy #Canada
