2024, That’s a Wrap! At the Smart Surfaces Coalition, we work with cities around the country and across the globe to accelerate the adoption of Smart Surfaces— a range of innovative urban infrastructure strategies that deliver real, measurable benefits to communities. From lower temperatures to improved health and equity, these solutions reveal the transformative impact sustainable infrastructure can have on our cities. Through our ongoing work with 10 metropolitan areas as part of the Cities for Smart Surfaces Initiative, we're working to protect over 35 million people from extreme weather while fostering social connectivity, justice, and job growth. These efforts are supported by our beta analytical tools—including the Benefit-Cost Analytical Tool, Decision Support Tool, and Smart Surfaces Policy Tracker—along with strong community engagement and federal funding aid.
