The safety and security of travellers is a top priority for which we work closely with our members, destinations and important stakeholders year round. Take a look back at what we’ve been up to in 2024:
🔵Meetings with the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO)
We've regularly met with the FCDO maintaining our ongoing relationships with various departments including, the Global Response Centre and Travel Advice teams, all of which helps us to keep members updated on the latest global issues affecting travelling British Nationals.
🔵Catching up with members through committees and working groups
We’ve hosted regular committee meetings with ABTA members, comprising health and safety managers, operational managers and resort managers, with the objective of working collaboratively on matters affecting tourism.
🔵Meeting with destinations and government tourism authorities
The World Travel Market in London was a particular highlight this year where we met with numerous destinations and government tourism authorities to share information and represent ABTA members’ businesses.
🔵Hosted ABTA Associate Partner Tourism Boards forums
We’ve held our regular bi-annual meetings with our ABTA Associate Partner Tourist Boards to discuss a variety of topics including, our programmes of work on health and safety matters overseas, biodiversity literacy training workshops, educational and student placements, and our media and public affairs engagement on forthcoming European border rules changes.
🔵Delivered Tourism Safety training course
In association with ABTA Partner IGI Ltd, we delivered a three-day Certificate in Tourism Safety training to members to support their work in destinations when working with suppliers to manage health and safety for the benefit of travellers, staff and local people.
🔵Delivered training events on both health and safety and crisis management
Our Destination Crisis Management and Operational Response for Travel training hosted experts that we work closely with, including the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) Consular and Crisis, National Travel Health Network and Centre (NaTHNaC), Homeland Security and GroundTruth Consulting Ltd, all of whom shared their insights on the latest emerging threats facing the travel industry. Other content included developing a sound crisis management plan, along with case study presentations from organisations who have experienced a crisis and how they responded.
