New update! The Sequential Intercept Model now includes the 988 Crisis Lifeline at Intercept 0, which provides new opportunities to support people in crisis BEFORE they encounter law enforcement. The impact is significant and includes less strain on emergency rooms, decreased police workload, better outcomes for people in crisis, and stronger community support systems. San Antonio's mental health crisis response team pairs officers, paramedics, and mental health clinicians to help people during emergencies. Known as CORE (Community Outreach & Resiliency Effort), the team has grown from one unit to three teams working around the clock. "Sometimes officers showing up can be a barrier to communication," says Ernie Stevens, highlighting why this combined approach works better than traditional police response alone. We are accepting applications from all supervision agencies looking to have an experienced data analyst embedded in their agency for one year at no cost. Participating agencies will receive a data analyst to help leaders use data more effectively to support data-driven decision-making.
