  • Congratulations to Hannah Carney, an emergency multi-care technician at the Turner Center Urgent Care, on receiving a Sunshine Award for Outstanding Nursing Support Staff! This award is given in appreciation of colleagues who show unwavering kindness, dedication and deliver outstanding care to our patients and families. Thank you, Hannah, for being the best for those who need us! Here’s a look at Hannah’s nomination letter that was submitted by a patient: "As a patient, I had the opportunity to witness firsthand Hannah’s dedication, professionalism and genuine compassion. Hannah consistently went above and beyond in her duties. She was not only attentive to my medical needs, but also demonstrated an extraordinary level of empathy, making my experience much more comfortable and less stressful. Her ability to balance technical skills with a warm, caring demeanor is truly commendable. One instance that stands out is when, after being told I would have to be admitted into the hospital and my vitals began to drop, I was transferred to the emergency room. Hannah made a special trip to the ER later that night to check on my progress. Her initiative, coupled with her strong work ethic, left a lasting positive impression on me and my husband. In addition to her clinical abilities, Hannah exhibited excellent communication skills. She explained procedures clearly, answered my questions patiently and always ensured that I felt informed and reassured. She greatly calmed my fears and anxieties. This quality is vital in health care, and she handled it with remarkable ease. I have no doubt that Hannah will continue to excel in her career and positively impact the lives of many others, just as she did mine.”

  • Since 1949, the CoxHealth Auxiliary has been dedicated to supporting CoxHealth’s mission by volunteering their time and talents, including sewing for patients. Recently, this incredible team of volunteers came together with our Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit to raise funds to craft heart pillows for patients in our CVICU! These thoughtful gifts provide comfort and help protect patients’ incisions during recovery. Interested in making a difference as a CoxHealth volunteer? • It’s time to highlight our fall 2024 DAISY Award honorees! This recognition is given to nurses who go above and beyond to serve our patients.  Today, we are featuring Annslee Glenn, an RN in our Labor and Delivery unit. Anslee was nominated by a patient for being exactly who she needed in a tough time of her and her husband’s lives.  This story includes mentions of infant loss. Please read with caution if this is a sensitive topic for you. “Annslee was recently our nurse, caring for me and my husband on the worst day of our lives. In September, I was told my 38-week-old baby no longer had a heartbeat. At that moment, everything became a blur. Little did we know at that same time in a different room, a young nurse was calling in to see if her staff needed an extra hand. Annslee was brought in and placed on our situation, and it turned out to be a complete godsend. Ms. Glenn tended to our every need and was so caring and passionate about her job, we instantly knew we were in amazing hands. She handled our delicate situation with such grace that she made the process bearable. She constantly made sure that not only was I comfortable and well taken care of, but she went outside of her job and made my husband and my family as comfortable as possible while going through such a tragedy. After 7 hours in labor, we were able to meet our perfect angel. As we continued to love our baby, Annslee continued to give me such great care so that I didn't have to worry about anything else. She also went above and beyond with pictures and keepsakes about our baby girl so that we would never forget her. Annslee Glenn is an amazing person and a fantastic nurse that elevates Labor and Delivery at Cox South.”

  • Health care is a great field for people who love a challenge. There are always ways to use your work experience in a different capacity. After eleven years working as a nurse in the Cardiac Intensive Care unit, Jeff Ferdig knew it was time for a change. Jeff was always drawn to procedural areas, so when some colleagues in the Cardiovascular Cath Lab told him about an opportunity in their department, he knew it could be a great fit. “Cardiac ICU gave me a good starting point to come to the Cath Lab. That critical care experience really does prepare you. But a strong nurse can learn the role without that previous experience. Last year I decided it was time to move away from floor nursing and I’ve been really happy with this change,” says Jeff. Making the transition to the Cardiovascular Cath Lab has come with new opportunities for collaboration with physicians. “We work in close proximity with physicians. While the physicians may be directing the procedure and treatment, we get a working relationship where we build trust. I feel like it’s a good collaborative role once you build that trust between you and the physician. They feel like they can trust you and your judgment and vice versa,” Jeff says. Jeff believes that a desire to learn is an important quality for anyone interested in working in the Cardiovascular Cath Lab. “You don’t have to show up and expect to know everything, but if you’re asking questions, learning, always taking in new information and adapting that to your role as the nurse, then you can be a good fit. If you’re willing to put in the effort and ask the right questions, anybody can succeed here,” he says. Thank you, Jeff, for everything you do to improve the health of your patients.
