About us
Through research, coalition building, and technical assistance, the Center for Racial Equity in Education (CREED) centers students of color, inspires institutional change, and facilitates better educational practice to transform the education system with the vision that one day race will no longer be the primary predictor of educational outcomes. To advance this mission, CREED conducts evidence-based research; builds coalitions of school leaders, educators, parents, policymakers, and community members who have a shared agenda of creating equitable school systems; and supports schools and educators with technical assistance and training designed to improve educational outcomes for students of color. Our work is grounded in the belief that if we center students of color, inspire institutional change, and facilitate better educational practice, we can transform the education system so the lives and experiences of students of color are central to how schools function.

"A number of national teacher surveys revealed that Black teachers — and teachers of color generally — report higher levels of optimism about their students’ futures and the state of the teaching profession than their white colleagues. Many Black teachers we’ve spoken with expressed confusion about this, emphasizing their own struggles to navigate their work environment or that Black teachers have higher turnover rates than their white peers. Reflecting on this incongruity, we’ve come to the conclusion that to be a Black teacher in America today is to — as James Baldwin put it — 'be in a rage almost all the time,' while simultaneously operating in a constant state of hope." https://lnkd.in/g5hhvqA8

This month, we began a partnership with Target to be a part of their Target Circle Community Giving Program. However, after the company’s disappointing choice to discontinue its intentional support of under-recognized, marginalized, and underserved communities, we have decided to no longer participate in the program.
