Türkiye has set a target for net-zero carbon emissions by 2053. Achieving this requires a transformation not just of the #energysystem but also the industrial and transport sectors, according to a recent study by our Turkish member SHURA Enerji Dönüşümü Merkezi / Energy Transition Center 📝 SHURA’s analysis shows that decarbonising Türkiye’s energy sector could 🔹 boost GDP by up to 2.1% and 🔹 employment by up to 6.2% These findings can help guide policymaking and support informed and balanced discussions on the socioeconomic aspects of the transition to ensure a fair and equitable shift to a sustainable energy future ↗️. 𝗪𝗿𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘂𝗽 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗵𝗮𝗶 𝗗𝗶𝗮𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘂𝗲 𝗼𝗻 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗘𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 𝗜𝘀𝘀𝘂𝗲𝘀 🇨🇳 Earlier this month, experts, policymakers and industry leaders gathered in Shanghai for an annual forum that explores issues at the intersection of the clean #energytransition and #climatechange. The event, co-organised by Agora Energy Transition China, Agora Energiewende and the SHANGHAI INSTITUTES FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDIES and the Energy Investment Professional Committee of IAC addressed critical topics such as opportunities for international collaboration on clean energy supply chains, developments in China’s carbon market and the EU’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (#CBAM) as well as their implications for both China and Europe. 𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗱: 🤝 China can cooperate with countries like Germany and the UK in key areas such as market access and transparency in the global supply chain. Though the supply chain may vary geographically, countries have diverse opportunities depending on their resources. China’s position in the global supply chain will remain critical, especially in terms of industrial competitiveness and global connectivity. In this regard, speakers reiterated that climate policy and the pursuit of #climateneutrality are important common goals that requires international collaboration. 🏭 As China expands its national carbon market to include steel, cement and aluminium, alongside the EU’s implementation of CBAM, industries face both challenges and opportunities. Companies can leverage these opportunities by transitioning early to low-carbon production methods and switching to renewable electricity solutions. The Shanghai Dialogue was broadcast live, viewed in real-time by more than 2.6 million people, underscoring the relevance of these important topics both in China and beyond. 👏 Thank you to our speakers, participants, organisers and partners for the insightful and timely discussions. 🌍 New Report Alert: New roles for energy efficiency in an electrified energy system 🌟 Energy efficiency policies are more crucial than ever — especially in the context of #electrification. This often-overlooked tool can play a transformative role in achieving affordable, inclusive, and sustainable electrification. In a new report titled "Right here! Right now! New roles for energy efficiency in an electrified energy system," Marion Santini, Louise Sunderland, and Samuel Thomas of the Regulatory Assistance Project (RAP) explain: ✅ How energy efficiency provides significant value ✅ How decision-makers can maximise their policies’ impact ✅ Why energy efficiency is important for EU Electrification Strategy Meeting the EU climate goal will require a huge electrification process + massive #renewables ☀ + massive #grid investments 🔌 + more flexible production, storage and use of electricity. ⚡ Sound scary? Strong #energyefficiency policies already support electrification by promoting efficient electric technologies like #heatpumps. More can be done for these policies to reduce the rise in electricity demand, foster flexible use of electricity by consumers & contribute to affordability & inclusion. When and where energy is saved increasingly matters. Efficiency measures can help ease local & time-specific constraints on the electricity system. The authors include three key recommendations for electrification: 1️⃣ Recognise & assess specific value of energy efficiency in electrification process 2️⃣ Explore targeted energy efficiency programmes that focus on specific challenges 3️⃣ Build synergies between policies promoting distributed energy resources Read the full report here: https://bit.ly/492OYlH

🚢 🇨🇳 China's latest subsidy policy for ships was jointly released by the Ministry of Transport and the National Development and Reform Commission in August 2024, and our new paper examines the scope and incentives offered for scrapping and renewing coastal and inland river ships. The policy broadens eligibility for the covered ships, includes new/clean energy vessels, and provides higher subsidies than previous programs, all signaling China’s commitment to advancing cleaner energy and reducing emissions from shipping. 🔗 Read more: https://lnkd.in/eXWnwTGb
