🚀 Virginia’s Booming Bioscience Industry 🌱 Biotechnology Innovation Organization and Council of State Bioscience Associations (CSBA) released new national and state-level data on the U.S. #bioscience industry's economic performance, its impacts, and its geographic footprint this week and Virginia is booming! In 2023, Virginia’s bioscience sector employed 30,504 people across 3,433 business establishments, experiencing rapid growth with an 18.6% increase in employment since 2019. Four out of five industry subsectors saw double-digit job gains, reflecting the sector's vitality. 💼 Wages: The average bioscience wage in Virginia reached $107,281, which is 44% higher than the state’s private sector average. 📊 Academic R&D: Bioscience-related R&D expenditures hit nearly $1.1 billion in 2022. 💡 NIH Funding: Virginia institutions secured $688 million in NIH funding in 2023, a 35% increase since 2019. 💰 Venture Capital: From 2019 to 2023, state bioscience companies attracted $2.5 billion in venture capital investments.
