🚨 Enough with Short-Termism in Healthcare 🚨 The time for bandaids is over. As Becker’s Hospital Review highlights (https://lnkd.in/gqqBhbrn), short-term strategies in health systems fail to deliver the lasting impact our communities deserve. We need a paradigm shift—NOW. The Digital Health Institute for Transformation (DHIT) Health Innovation Sprint is leading the charge. By addressing the 89% of health determinants outside the clinical setting—behavior, environment, social factors—we’re creating actionable, human-centered solutions that transform lives. This isn’t just a theory; it’s a movement powered by digital transformation, personalized health blueprints, and a relentless focus on equity and impact. 💥 Act today for long-term change. 💥 Redesign care systems to empower individuals. 💥 Build communities where health is a right, not a privilege. The window for change is closing. Let’s rise to the challenge and create the future of health together. 🌟 North Carolina: It’s Time for Change in Healthcare🌟 Did you know that North Carolina ranks as the #MOSTEXPENSIVE state in the U.S. for healthcare costs? This alarming statistic isn’t just a number—it represents the financial burden on families, the gaps in access, and the inefficiencies in our system. As the home state of the Digital Health Institute for Transformation (DHIT), we cannot stand idly by while our residents face these challenges. It’s time to stop doing the same thing over and over again, expecting different results. We need a new approach. The recently released U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) AI Strategic Plan for 2025 emphasizes key strategies for transforming healthcare, including: ✅ Empowering person-centered solutions ✅ Leveraging AI and emerging technologies ✅ Addressing social determinants of health ✅ Fostering collaboration and innovation At the Digital Health Institute for Transformation (DHIT), we’ve already built the tools and methods to achieve these goals. Through our Health Innovation Sprint, we create community-driven, actionable solutions that are fast, scalable, and impactful. By uniting stakeholders from across the ecosystem—patients, providers, policymakers, and innovators—we accelerate real change. #NorthCarolina, we call on you to be bold. Let’s work together to rewrite our healthcare story and show the nation how #innovation, #collaboration, and #humancentereddesign can transform lives. Partner with DHIT to lead this charge. The time for change is now. As another year approaches its sunset, our team would typically reflect on and highlight the people we met, places we went, and experiences we cultivated and how that informs our strategy in 2025; however, more importantly, as human beings, we’d like to take the time to highlight the current and future state of society in lieu of reflection. The world has always been fraught with forces that pressure our professional and personal lives. Today, an aging population never-before-seen lacks the capacity of caregivers and infrastructure to age well and unencumbered the Sandwich Generation. Global and local political shifts are redirecting fund flows and modifying regulatory pathways that have massive implications for digital health innovation. And social class divisions continue to broaden and bridle with anger – evident not only by the assassination of Brian Thompson, UnitedHealthcare’s CEO but also by the widespread apathy of a bi-partisan coalition of everyday people. Life can be complicated, messy, scary, and painful – even more so when people lack trust in a system that’s supposed to support them. As 2025 looms and fear of the unknown continues to boil, I implore us, as changemakers and status-quo challengers, to stake ownership in what we can control – what is within our ability to affect positive change, what we can learn, what can we test, and what can we implement to progress ourselves and our loved ones forward. From a systemic perspective, operating in silos is not only outdated, it's dangerous to our social fabric. The free flow of data and technology will accelerate our learning curves, our testing frequency, and our implementation cycles to transform ourselves and our communities from the bottom up. Taking stock of the forces outside of our control is important, but being derailed by them is non-negotiable. At DHIT, we preach and practice the process of Digital Transformation to ensure we focus on what we can control and impact – that is, arguably the most important facet of the human experience: understanding who you are and what you can do about it. Through data collection strategy and the deployment of advanced technology, we can cultivate the right data sets to support our learning and knowledge growth. We will test, retest, and deploy until we succeed…V1 or V100 As we innovate and unlock our best selves every day, we hope you will remember that energy flows where focus goes, irrespective of the chaos around us – in service of our communities, for now, and until the end. Wishing you all the very best for the holidays and a very happy New Year! - Michael Levy and the DHIT Team
