We're excited to showcase innovative strategies from The Building Playbook, supporting the City of Austin's climate goals through low carbon retrofitting. Here are three of the guidelines that support cost-effective decarbonization in existing buildings: Stimulate Sustainable Behavior 🌿 Achieving sustainability in retrofitted buildings hinges on occupant behavior. By engaging users through education, gamification, and real-time energy use visualization, we can significantly reduce carbon emissions. This is exemplified by Danish solutions like proprty.ai, which uses artificial intelligence to automate property maintenance, providing predictive plans that defer renovations and maximize CO2 savings, significantly reducing emissions. Enhance Passive Design Measures 🌱 Increasing reliance on passive design in construction and retrofitting is key to sustainable building practices and reducing carbon emissions. Passive design strategies maximize natural light, minimize heat gain, and optimize building orientation to create comfortable indoor environments with minimal mechanical systems. Leading companies like Ramboll illustrate this with their Ev0 Building in the UK, which sets a new standard using timber, low-carbon concrete, and optimized façade designs, generating 94% of its energy on-site and storing approximately 4000 tons of CO2. Stimulate Transformation of Existing Buildings 🍀 Retrofitting existing buildings is essential for sustainability, reducing carbon emissions, and maximizing urban infrastructure longevity. Strategic planning, interdisciplinary collaboration, and policy support are crucial for successful transformations. SHL - Schmidt Hammer Lassen demonstrated this by revitalizing the historic Boston Commonwealth Pier, transforming it into modern, functional spaces while preserving its historical structures. By avoiding demolition, we conserve energy and preserve historical and cultural value. Dansk forsvarsindustri fremviser innovative teknologier på AUSA i Washington D.C.📡💡 I denne uge deltog DI USA i Association of the United States Army - AUSA Annual Meeting and Exposition, som er Nordamerikas største militær udstilling. DI Forsvar og sikkerhed’s delegation bestod ikke mindst af 30 virksomheder som fremviste produkter og løsninger, skabte kontakter og undersøgte potentialet for amerikanske aftager i en tid hvor efterspørgslen for forsvarsevner ligger højt. Vi takker for en vellykket klimauge og nogle intense dage her i NYC, byen der aldrig sover... Vi reflekterer nu over en oplevelse, der både gjorde os klogere og gav os noget at tænke over.   Danmark var stærkt repræsenteret på Sustainability Summit NYC 2024, med over 60 danske virksomheder og mere end 800 nøgleinteressenter samlet. Vi er utrolig stolte af at være en del af det danske aftryk herovre. Det er tydeligt, at hvis vi skal nå FN’s 2030-mål, kræver det modige satsninger på samarbejde mellem det offentlige og private. Dette står klokkeklart efter denne uge.   En stor tak til alle, der deltog og bidrog til at gøre ugen til en succes! Vores lille team i DI USA løber ofte stærkt, og det gør en kæmpe forskel, når vi får besøg hjemmefra. Denne gang havde vi fornøjelsen af vores Director Kinga Szabo Christensen, som tidligere selv har haft sin daglige gang her i NYC. Now, onto the next. Collaboration, Finance, Innovation, Risk aversion, Geopolitics... These were some of the key themes that emerged from yesterday's enlightening kickoff at the 2024 Sustainability Summit NYC. The event began with inspiring remarks from Ambassador Helle Meinertz, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark, Brian Mikkelsen, CEO of Dansk Erhverv, and Kinga Szabo Christensen, our Deputy Director General of Danish Industry. We were honored to have Morten Bødskov, the Danish Minister for Industry, Business, and Financial Affairs, join us alongside esteemed representatives from the Danish business sector to discuss our progress towards a greener future. All of them highlighted the essential importance of public-private partnerships in realizing the UN 2030 Agenda. The Monday sessions underscored the importance of mobilizing diverse viewpoints to better understand urgent climate issues. While we tend to focus on our national strengths, it is sometimes necessary to consider what we need to improve. Yesterday highlighted the power of uniting stakeholders from various fields and backgrounds to share their expertise and knowledge. By breaking down silos, we can complement each other’s strengths and more effectively address pressing challenges. We look forward to engaging in the upcoming discussions throughout #ClimateWeekNYC!

Energi er magt. Vi mener ikke bare i sin traditionelle forstand, men geopolitisk magt og samtidig er det en central del af staters autonomi og kritiske infrastruktur.   Som om det ikke var komplekst nok, så er der også en masse hensyn at tage, da fri flydende energi er et system af komponenter, der spænder fra store vedvarende energiprojekter, forsyningssikkerhed, robuste værdikæder, energieffektivitet og meget mere.   Vi har alle et ønske om  at de-karbonisere det globale energisystem, men skal vi det, så skal ALT nævnte tages i betragtning, og intet kontinent, land eller region kan efterlades.   I dag til Sustainability Summit NYC, en del af Climate Week NYC, var fokus på ’De-karbonisering for fremtiden’. Den grønne omstilling er nu, men den er også i fremtiden, og vil vi nå 70 procent reduktionsmålet i 2030, ikke bare som mål, men også for at rede vores globale klima, så kræver det handling! LAUNCH: The Building Playbook: An Owners and Solution Providers Guide for Low Carbon Retrofit We are proud to announce the launch of The Building Playbook! In collaboration with the Austin Energy, Danish Industry, BLOXHUB, Danish Energy Agency and 3XN/GXN, we have developed the Building Playbook, that highlights the concrete challenges and opportunities associated with energy retrofitting of buildings. This Playbook is the result of two intensive workshops in Austin, where representatives from the City of Austin, local stakeholders, and Danish companies and organizations participated.
