About us
Welcome to DSN! We’re proud of what we’ve achieved on behalf of our service users throughout Cheshire since we were formed in 1974. We’re proud of our team, our volunteers and other supporters, the local authorities we work with and the organisations we work alongside. Back in 1974, Trustees of the Chester and North Wales Society for the Deaf, and of the Warrington and District Society for Deaf People, together made a landmark decision to form the Cheshire Society for the Deaf, now operating as Deafness Support Network (DSN). DSN is the service provider organisation for D/deaf* people in the county of Cheshire and the surrounding areas. These services are delivered under contract for Cheshire East, Cheshire West and Chester, and Flintshire Councils. The local societies (Deaf Clubs) in Chester, Warrington and Vale Royal retained their independence and continue to thrive to this day, sharing premises with DSN. Each society serves a distinct local community but is strengthened by its partnership with DSN, which is able to innovate and develop, whilst acting as a guide and support for the local organisations.

What a royally great day!
At our #RoyalVisit from HRH The Duchess of Edinburgh, we brought together grantee charities for themed round table discussions. On the theme of *supporting people with a disability* we invited Cheryl Simpson MBE: Space4Autism, Gill REEDER: DSN, Cat Costigan (MCIPD, ACA): East Cheshire Eye Society, Gillian Jones: Friends For Leisure, and Alison Parr: Ruby's The assembled experts joined Debbie Smith in discussing the opportunities and challenges charities face in supporting people with a disability, in and around Macclesfield. The Duchess of Edinburgh clearly appreciated the charity leaders' passion, dedication and collaborative approach. Her Royal Highness expressed her empathy on hearing about the personal toll it takes on those at the helm. Through the generosity of local people and businesses, since 2012 we have made grants totalling millions of pounds supporting people with disabilities. From adapted bikes to BSL interpreters for domestic violence support, we are proud to be at the centre of a collaborative approach to this innovative work. #Disability #HealthInequality #Cheshire #LocalCharities #Community

We were honoured to receive a #RoyalVisit last week from Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Edinburgh, to share how our varied grants are supporting residents on the themes of poverty, disability, and emotional health & wellbeing. Thank you to our host David Bayley at the Church of the Resurrection Macclesfield, and Fabienne Donbavand who runs the CoRE Pantry, demonstrating their vital role in increasing access for local people to nutritious food and wider support. We look forward to sharing more about the charity attendees, impactful discussions, and inspiring stories from this special day in our upcoming posts.
