Four years ago, Dylan Green made the commitment to place 50% women or people who identify as women in the roles we work, nearly half of which have been LGBTQ, BIPOC, or who have other marginalized identities. 2023 was the first year in which we fell short of the 50% commitment - by 8% - due in large part to employers' overwhelming shift back to requiring in-person work. This transition has had a disproportionate impact on women, who spend nearly double the time men spend on primary child care & elderly care, according to recent studies. Remote work enables women to more easily balance work & household responsibilities by cutting out substantial commute times & providing greater flexibility in their schedules. As a result, if a job offer does not allow for remote work, women, are statistically more likely to turn down the offer. There are many studies about the benefits of remote work for women’s labor force participation & career advancements. Shoutout to those employers we worked with in 2023 who are still offering fully remote opportunities, including UtilityAPI, Coho, an ERM Group company, Coalition for Community Solar Access, Aries Clean Technologies, Constellation, Gage Zero, ClimeCo, CleanCapital & CleanChoice Energy, many of which we were able to place women, LGBTQ &/or BIPOC candidates with. We look forward to continuing to fulfill our 50% commitment in 2024 & beyond by working especially closely with employers that are attuned to the impact of hybrid & in-person versus remote work, particularly on women.
