Big news! We’re leading fleet electrification in the hauling, recycling, composting, and waste industries—leaving the pollution of the past in the rearview mirror! Eco-Cycle has rolled out a 100% electric-powered recycling truck this fall, funded by Xcel Energy’s EV Accelerate Innovation program. This marks another major milestone in our journey toward a Zero Waste, Zero Emissions future, and follows our deployment of the country’s first commercial-scale electric compost truck in summer 2023. Our drivers are at the forefront of our transition to an electric fleet, pioneering the use of heavy-duty EV trucks on the road in Boulder County, demonstrating that EV trucks are the future of the hauling industry! Diverting organic materials from landfills is essential to curbing climate change. Whether it be through food waste reduction and food donation, composting, mulching, anaerobic digestion, or creation of biochar, or using end products as a resource to build soil, managing organics has the potential to substantially reduce climate pollution and creates significant community, economic, and environmental benefits. Swipe to learn more about the benefits of a Circular Organics Economy, and check out Eco-Cycle and CoPIRG's newly released 8th State of Recycling and Composting in Colorado report at ecocycle.org/sorc.

Eco-Cycle and CoPIRG’s 8th State of Recycling and Composting in Colorado report reveals promising strides toward a circular economy, including the groundbreaking Producer Responsibility for Recycling Packaging Act (HB22-1355), which will bring free recycling access to all Coloradans starting in 2026, add service to 700,000 households that don’t currently have recycling, and could increase the recycling of packaging to 60% by 2035! Next up: organics diversion. Food scraps and yard trimmings make up nearly 40% of what Colorado landfills! Composting these materials reduces methane, supports local businesses, and enriches soil. Just as Colorado advanced policies and infrastructure to promote recycling, we need to do the same for composting. Our report makes key recommendations for how Colorado can grow its compost systems. Explore how Colorado communities are leading in recycling and composting, preserving resources, and building a sustainable future in the 2024 State of Recycling and Composting report! Happy Colorado Recycles Week! In 2020, Governor Jared Polis declared the third week of November as Colorado Recycles Week, recognizing our state’s commitment to sustainability and the progress we’ve made toward a circular economy. This week, we celebrate our collective strides in reducing waste, conserving resources, and driving a cleaner, more sustainable future for all. In recent years, Colorado has passed groundbreaking legislation that is paving the way for a more sustainable future. From the Plastic Pollution Reduction Act (HB21-1162) to the Producer Responsibility for Recycling Packaging and Printed Paper (HB22-1355) and more, we're setting national examples for how to reduce waste and plastic pollution. We’re proud of the progress we’ve made—but there’s more to do! Stay tuned this week for how Colorado communities and businesses are pushing for solutions that will keep Colorado on the cutting edge of sustainability!

Happy Fall! Last month, schools in the Boulder Valley School District collected shoes to be reused all over the world—including at some local schools. The Eco-Cycle Schools team sorted through the shoes on October 31 (check out their costumes!) to find good-quality, reusable pairs. There will be 757 lb of shoes—about 710 pairs—donated to Soles4Souls and to local schools, providing good-quality winter boots to students. Thanks to everyone for donating your shoes to be given a second life!
