  • 🌍 As we celebrate 30 years of Ecochallenge.org, we find ourselves at a critical moment for climate action. The recent election has highlighted the urgency of environmental issues, reminding us of the need for ongoing commitment to reversing climate change and protecting our planet. For over three decades, Ecochallenge.org has weathered change, fostered resilience, and empowered individuals to take meaningful action. Today, we renew our pledge to the future we want to see—a future where the communities we’ve built together thrive, and the Earth is protected for generations to come. 🌱 ✨ Inspiring action, nurturing community, sustaining change ✨ Our 30th Anniversary Giving Campaign celebrates everything our community has achieved through collective action and support. Right now, it may feel like much is out of our control, but there’s power in focusing on what we can control—the choices we make each day to bring positive change to our lives and the communities we’ve created together. 💪 Over the coming weeks, we’ll share impactful stories and highlights from our 30th Anniversary Impact Report. • From construction to conservation
"My aha moment was learning about the new house construction, because I work in construction during the summertime. And I've never realized all the different ways to add insulation or to construct it differently to make it more eco friendly."

The image features a worker in a construction setting, illustrating sustainable building practices with icons of insulation materials and eco-friendly construction elements.
    • Mindfulness and well-being
"My aha moment most definitely was after a few of the daily walks I had. I noticed several things about my neighborhood that I have always looked over because I had not thought to give it any time of day. Not only had I noticed new things, I felt much better after each walk. I felt less anxiety and had better sleep at night."

The image depicts a serene neighborhood scene with a person walking, surrounded by calming nature elements, reflecting mindfulness and well-being.
    • Cooking with a zero-waste mindset
"Before the challenge I used to throw away my stems and stalks and after reading a 'zero waste cooking' article, I found a recipe for a stem and stalk pesto sauce that was actually pretty tasty so I'll definitely be trying more of that in the future."

The image showcases kitchen tools, vegetables, and a jar of pesto, emphasizing zero-waste cooking with a light and clean aesthetic.

Her own home now has high-efficiency insulation, solar panels, triple-paned windows, and uses permaculture practices. Illustration of a solar panel and a globe representing sustainable living.
    • With the discussion courses, Northwest Earth Institute helped explain why you should change how you think and live when it comes to sustainability,' Kim Smith shares. 'Now, Ecochallenge.org focuses on how to make that change. People need to know both to make a difference.' A blue quote box with colorful abstract patterns in the background.
    • One of Kim’s first Ecochallenges was a small step that started it all: 'My first Ecochallenge was to put a bucket in the shower to collect the water as it heats up.' This simple action led her to a lifelong commitment to broader change. Illustration of a shower with a pink bucket catching water.
    • As an educator at Portland Community College (PCC) since 1996, Kim integrated Ecochallenge.org materials into her courses and inspired over 1,000 students to participate in Ecochallenge activities. Her work with PCC’s Green Team helped the college earn national recognition for its sustainability efforts, supporting PCC’s climate action plan and commitment to climate justice. • 🌎 People's Ecochallenge is less than 3 weeks away, and we’re thrilled to bring it back! 🎉 A little history: our October Ecochallenge was the first signature event we ever hosted on the Ecochallenge platform. Over time, we revamped it into what you know today – People's Ecochallenge. Why the name change?
