For two decades Mark Salinas has served the City of Hayward, and during his tenure, he has seen big changes in the housing market as it became increasingly tighter due to a chronic undersupply of housing and rising home prices. Mayor Salinas has been a passionate voice for housing of all types, including #affordablehousing, working with community partners to develop creative solutions. We’re honored to be one of the recipients of the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Community Development Financial Institutions Fund (CDFI Fund) Capital Magnet Fund (CMF) award! 🌟 This funding will help us advance our mission by supporting the development and preservation of #affordablehousing. The FY 2024 CMF awards $246.4 million across 48 organizations, supporting the development of 26,400 affordable housing units and investing in vital facilities like workforce development centers, healthcare clinics, and day care centers. A few months ago, we announced that #EdenHousing was selected as a Lowe's Hometowns project, with plans to bring a new community garden to Faith Manor and Tennyson Gardens Apartments. 🌱 Fast forward to Lowe's Red Vest Day, local Lowe's associates, partners, and construction pros rolled up their sleeves and helped make this vision a reality! Together, they transformed our community space by raking leaves, removing litter, laying new mulch, and constructing planter boxes, benches, and sheds across five garden areas. 🌷🌼 The new garden space—complete with areas for hands-on learning and after-school programs—now offers our residents a peaceful, welcoming environment to connect, grow, and enjoy. On this Veteran’s Day, we honor the service and sacrifice of our nation’s veterans, many of whom face unique challenges transitioning back to civilian life, including housing insecurity. At Eden Housing, we’re proud to provide stable and supportive homes for veterans, ensuring they have a safe place to call home. The photo is Corsair Flat, an Eden's community that provides 28 homes for veterans who have experienced homelessness in the past. Supportive services are provided through a collaboration between Operation Dignity, Eden Housing Resident Services, Inc. and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
