🌍 Scaling Impact: Clean Energy & Women’s Empowerment 🌍 Through EnDev’s interventions, clean energy access is transforming lives: ✅ 6.3 million women and children now face lower exposure to hazardous pollutants thanks to clean cooking solutions. ✅ 35,990 women are employed in MSMEs supported by EnDev, driving economic growth. ✅ 15.8 million women and girls have gained access to energy, improving livelihoods and opportunities. One example is Sunita, a shop owner from Jorpokhari, Nepal who expanded her business selling kitchen utensils, LPG gas, stoves, and regular cookware. With support from the Sustainable Market Development of eCooking in Nepal project, she added induction cookstoves to her inventory, she sold 550 units in just 8 months—and has thus more than tripled her turnover. In Malawi, health💉, climate protection 🌍, and digitalization 🖥️ go hand in hand: In a local health centre in the south, this refrigerator cools vaccines using solar energy. To ensure it operates reliably, we work with digital solutions: a mini transmitter reports malfunctions directly to the technical service, thus enabling faster repairs. We have equipped more than 1,200 health centers in five African countries with sustainable cooling chains on behalf of Bundesministerium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (BMZ). 🔎 Insights from EnDev’s Phased-Out Projects Energy access projects have the potential to contribute to sector transformation. Without EnDev’s long-term engagement along with its partners, the Vietnamese biogas sector would not have developed into what it is today. From 2013 to 2020, EnDev Vietnam promoted small-scale biodigesters to enhance clean cooking in rural areas. Implemented by SNV, the project facilitated the construction of 54,000 domestic biodigesters, transforming the national biogas sector into a private-sector-driven market. One approach was introducing Results-based Financing (RBF) and shifting support from user subsidies to the supply side. Even after the project´s phase out, the influence progress continues—empowering local institutions, driving sector growth, and ensuring long-term change. Supporting e-Mobility in Refugee Settlements What if a simple innovation could empower food vendors, families, and farmers in refugee settlements while saving money and the environment? 🚲 A public-private partnership joined forces to establish a scalable e-mobility and e-business solution at affordable prices for refugee communities in Kenya. Solar-E-Cycles in partnership with Strathmore University and OFGEN Africa have been granted under the Smart Communities Coalition Innovation Fund (SCCIF), which is implemented by EnDev. Their electric vehicles are transforming transport for about $3.50/day—an affordable and sustainable alternative to motorcycles. 💡 Here's how this initiative is changing lives: ✅ Supporting businesses like food vendors and smallholder farmers ✅ Providing a reliable way of transport for families within refugee settlements ✅ Replacing diesel generators with clean energy sources We’re proud to highlight how clean energy drives a brighter, more equitable future. Improved cookstoves are a game-changer for sustainable energy, offering cleaner, safer, and more efficient cooking solutions while reducing environmental impact. By promoting their use, we empower communities, improve health outcomes, and drive sustainable development. Energising Development (EnDev), a multi-donor partnership funded by Germany (Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the German Embassy), the Netherlands, Norway, and Switzerland in collaboration with AVSI Foundation, hit the streets of Kenema, Zimmi, and Pujehun to champion clean and efficient cookstoves. This impactful roadshow focused on: ✅ Raising awareness and inspiring behavioral change toward adopting improved cookstoves. ✅ Enhancing access to clean cooking technology in rural, hard-to-reach communities. ✅ Empowering local producers and strengthening the market for improved cookstoves (ICS) in these regions. To make these life-changing stoves more accessible, the cost was reduced by 25% during the roadshow. The result?
